When the back end sags from a trailer or bed load, steering and braking can get sketchy. This RoadActive Suspension kit converts your factory leaf springs into a mechanically active system with 2,000-lb capacity that keeps your ride level and responsive. The variable-rated coil tension springs automatically adjust to your load, giving you the support you need when towing or hauling without stiffening the ride when empty.

Heavy loads can cause sway on turns or wheel hop under acceleration. The RAS system strengthens your leaf springs to eliminate axle wrap and wheel hop while reducing sway and body roll. By keeping the rear suspension controlled and tight, it helps your truck stay planted through corners and steady in crosswinds or when a semi passes by on the highway.

Unlike systems that only react after the problem starts, this one engages right away to stabilize your suspension when loaded and disengages when unloaded for a comfortable everyday drive. There’s no need to adjust air pressure or check fittings—the mechanical design reacts instantly to any change in weight and requires no maintenance once installed.
Each RAS unit is made from epoxy e-coated high-grade steel with corrosion-resistant brackets rated for over 800 hours of salt spray. The fully assembled kit bolts on under the leaf spring using existing hardware—no drilling, cutting, or welding required. Once it’s on, it’s ready to go to work every time you hitch up or load down the bed without needing further adjustment or upkeep.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this RoadActive Suspension custom leaf spring enhancement kit. Now this kit is designed to fit your 1991 to 2003 Ford Explorer, then your 2001 to 2005 Explorer Sport Trac, and then your 1997 to 2001 Mercury Mountaineer. On custom-fit parts such as this kit, I do recommend taking advantage of our Vehicle Fit Guide here at etrailer.com. Just input the year, make, and model of your vehicle, and our Fit Guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. So as you probably know, when towing or hauling a heavy load, you may encounter a number of problems that can make your driving experience a little bit difficult and even dangerous, such as sway, body roll, or bottoming out.
When your vehicle is weighted down, your factory leaf springs can't counteract these problems to the extent that they are supposed to. The weight will overpower those factory leaf springs and cause them to twist and even flatten out. When that happens, they're not gonna be able to support, level, or stabilize your vehicle effectively. Additionally, because your leaf springs are passive, they won't begin to tackle the problems such as sway until those problems have already started. This kit will convert your vehicle's factory leaf springs into a mechanically active suspension system.
It will actively strengthen the leaf springs for improved ride quality with or without a load, and this all-in-one suspension system will improve stability, handling, and control. It will eliminate axle wrap, wheel hop, and bottoming out. Will also help reduce dangerous sway and body roll when you're cornering, and it will even keep your ride level when you're towing or hauling a heavy load, improving your traction while braking and accelerating. It does use the variable-rated coil tension springs, which will automatically adjust to your vehicle's load. They activate immediately to support the extra weight and they'll disengage when unloaded, allowing your leaf springs to perform as intended.
These can be adjusted during installation to accommodate your towing or hauling needs, and they are independently adjustable for side-to-side leveling of any off-center loads. So these are gonna help extend the life of your leaf springs, your shock absorbers, your shackles, and even your tires. These are made here in the USA and they're constructed of a durable epoxy e-coated steel. The corrosion-resistant brackets on the ends of each unit have a salt spray rating of more than 800 hours, and this is gonna be a pretty easy bolt-on installation. What's nice about this kit is there's no drilling, there's no cutting, there's no welding needed.
This is going to secure under the leaf springs and around your factory U-bolts. On your screen, I've got a picture, and kind of like a diagram there, just giving you an idea of what the installation is going to look like and how these are going to work with your springs. These do arrive fully assembled. The hardware is included, so as you see it here on my table, this is what you're gonna take out of the box. So they're gonna be very easy to assemble, ready to go. These are maintenance-free. Adjustments and monitoring aren't gonna be needed once they are installed. The capacity is 2,000 pounds, but I do want to make sure that you understand the fact that this kit does not actually increase your vehicle's weight carrying capacity. Just so you're aware of that. Instructions are included to guide you through the operation and installation, and I think that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

Well It has not failed me yet. Being basically a spring under load all the time I am assuming the spring will stretch some over time and I will have to adjust tension accordingly. The pickup sits nicely on the thinner washer setting so I am leaving it there and hopefully that will help the system last longer.

Looks great, Les :) I hear lots of good this about this option for suspension enhancement and how you said, even without towing it can improve the ride quality. Glad to know that you are happy with them, too! do you have any upcoming camping trips planned?

What can I say. After a year of constantly driving through Texas roads and highways. I have moved twice and loaded the bed of my truck plus U-Haul 6x12 trailer and thy truck has not felt the load of it. The Active Road Suspension Leaf Spring is constantly sort of speak sensing if theres load so it can actively push it upwards. I have even driven up to the crazy roads of Pennsylvania and my pick drives smoother than when I got it from the dealer. Im telling you these things work. As any cautious driver upkeeping his own vehicle, I have periodically checked the bolts and location of the resistance in between the spring and it has not deflected or moved from its original installation. I believe every pick up must have these. It beats constantly putting air on the air bags especially in inclement weather like up here in Pennsylvania with the snow. I couldnt be more satisfied with this purchase. Thank you etrailer for offering this superb product.

After a year I am still pleased with this product. I had been adjusting the spring tension higher when towing and then back down after a trailering trip, but now just leave it adjusted to the trailer towing tension as the unloaded ride doesnt seem to suffer when the springs are tighter.

OMG!! I have done extensive traveling with my trailer over the last year and the RAS system has made a huge difference in sway, road buffeting and squat. I can’t imagine not having this on any vehicle that tows!
