The toolbox sits just 2" above the truck bed rails instead of the standard 4," providing a better view out the back window for maneuvering or keeping an eye on your load. The insulated, beveled, single lid opens fully to 90 degrees with the help of two super-duty lift cylinders, which raise the lid and hold it open as you load and unload your gear. Smaller items and tools can be stored conveniently on the divided, sliding tray, ensuring they are readily available for use.

Today, we're enabling our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to do a little bit more with the UWS truck bed toolbox. We're gonna have stainless steel latches on both sides. So this is gonna be a toolbox that will be easy to open up from the sides. We have gas struts. So all you have to do is pull that lever and you're good to go. You don't have to slam this thing down either.
This toolbox is the low profile design so it's not gonna add a whole lot of height off the rails. And this one's about two and three quarter inches off of your rails. And it's also the crossover style which is going to give us some room underneath. So from the bed all the way down it's about nine and a half inches So if you are hauling some lumber and stuff like that, you still have some room underneath for some other stuff. And the nice thing about these stainless steel latches is one they're not gonna rust away over time but two it's super easy to get it undone on both sides.
All you have to do is pull the latch and it opens up, the gas struts are going to allow it to just go straight up and you don't really have to slam it down to get it completely shut. It's just very, very easy. And then notice that the lock and cores are on this side. I typically am on the driver's side whenever I lock everything up, 'cause then I just get right into the driver's seat and drive off. But both sides are just as easy as the others both opening and closing.
The overall length from end to end is 66 and seven eighths of an inch. And the overall width of it is gonna be 20 inches. And the overall height is 14 and a half inches. And all those dimensions are gonna give us about 7.5 cubic foot of space to put stuff, that doesn't really do a whole lot for me. So I'll just show you exactly what we got going on right now.
We have a couple different boxes. I do think that's the best way to transport tools just to kind of keep 'em organized. So it's not all just thrown in the bottom. And then there is a measurement that's kind of useful because we do have a tray that slides and our little red case here is about seven inches tall, and it still has enough room to completely slide around. But our vise grips case is a little too long. but we do have a little slide right here, which is great for some of your smaller drills like this, some of your batteries and a nice thing about it too is we still have so much more room. This isn't too deep. Meaning if we have a five gallon bucket or something that's not gonna be something we want to use with this toolbox, you probably wanna avoid going with the crossover styles cause you need it to be a little bit deeper. You do have some slots on each side, so we're gonna have five on each side for your screwdrivers and stuff like that. But one thing to note, if you do your taller screwdrivers on this end, that gas strut will eventually hit that. So kind of strategize where you're gonna put all your stuff. but there's so many different places and a lot of room for pretty much all the tools you'll need on the job site. Everything should be fine out of the box, but there are some adjustments. If you wanted it to maybe latch a little bit harder or a little bit softer, and also down on the gas struts where they mount, you can also adjust that as well. So there's a lot of stuff you can do with it. Notice this lid and the seal that goes around it. So that's gonna prevent any type of moisture or dirt to get in. And also even if the seal wasn't there, notice how much the lip goes over top of the box. I like that, just because it's really gonna have to travel through this little crevice to even get into box but then we also have the seal as well. With the lid, whenever you have some larger items and you have to pull 'em fully out, I do like how the lid almost comes up perfectly at 90 degrees. So there's not gonna be any contact with your cab and we're not gonna have any issues pulling some of the bigger bulkier items out. All the hardware that you need to install this toolbox comes with it, which is nice, you just wanna take the little J hook and it's gonna hook on the inside lip of your side rails. And then, we put the washer down and I like to hold it up while I install this, bring that all the way down. And then you just need a 13 millimeter socket to tighten it all the way down until it's nice and solid. For me, the ultimate test of a toolbox is if it's going to kind of flex or dent in over times. Cause a lot of the times I end up just maybe just sitting right here after golf round, after a long day on the job site. But, I don't think that this one is going to dent in at all. It feels a lot more solid than my buddies at home and his, even though it is a nice seat, but it is very very dividend in the inside. UWS does make it with some high quality aluminum. So it's not going to dent in over time. And at the end of the day I just think trucks should have tool boxes on them. It just gives you an extra secure spot to put a bunch of your stuff. So it's not clogging up the cab. And I just think it looks great on a truck. I don't know if it's just because of the black powder coated finished and our black truck, but it does look really good too. And that's pretty much it for a look at the UWS trucked toolbox on our 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500..

After 2 weeks I finally got my toolbox this is good for a 2001 Ford ranger stepside it doesn't say it would fit but I measured it before I bought it had one little ding in the corner but I touched it up with spray paint overall it's an excellent toolbox and it fit perfectly this is originally for a Chevy S10 but I measured it and it fits good I would recommend this to anyone who owns a Ford ranger stepside! Check out the pictures you can see how well it fits! It is hard to find a toolbox that fits a Ford ranger stepside I used to work in the Marine Corps parts department in the motor pool so I know how to measure parts at first they said this wouldn't fit my truck but I told them I measured it!
My UWS Crossover tool box fit great. Only minutes to install. Looks great and needed on my 05 Ford Ranger single cab.

The tool box works great. Works for what we needed and is low profile.
I've had bed box for almost a year now. So far so good. The finish looks as good as the day I installed the box, which by the way was a snap to install. I'm very happy with this product and glad I didn't go for one of the less expensive products like a few of my buddies did. Most of them have constant problems with their bed boxes. IE: hinges freezing up latch problems and most of all the finishes that aren't holding up.
I've had this tool box for about a year. Its held up well without issue. This replaced a 9 year old tool box from Lowes that cracked at the bed support. So far so good on this one. The locking and opening mechanism works great and is covered so things dont bind it up. The only strange thing is that after a windy snow storm there was snow inside the tool box and I hadn't driven anywhere.
I was so happy to get this for my son. The only one i could find that would fit his ranger at the time. he uses it every day and it works great after one year. packaging , no scratches, and installed so easy that i went and bought me one. would recommend. sorry not much for technology or i would have added photos.
When I purchased the toolbox I forgot to mention that I have a bed liner in my vehicle. Therefore I had to put a 3/4 inch spacer on the top bed rails so the bottom of the toolbox would clear the bed liner over the wheel wells and fuel tank spout. Other then that I really have enjoyed the toolbox and have gotten many compliments as well.
Been happy with my purchase. I gave it 4/5 stars because it arrived with a dent on the lid that I was able to remove with a rubber mallet and a 2x4. The metal inside reflects poor workmanship. There are some sharp edges near the latch mechanism that I discovered firsthand after reaching in there. Aside from those issues it has functioned well and I find the dual lid release latches are convenient.
Fast and friendly service.
The truck box is a good looking truck box but that’s about all the good I can say about it. The striker for the latch continuously came loose causing the lid not to latch completely and the top to come open going down the road. I fixed this by putting loctite on the nuts holding the striker in place. The gaskets along the lid have completely turned loose and are no longer there. The keys never worked from the first day. Overall not very satisfied with the quality of the box for the price.
