You will enjoy how much the sleek look of UWS's Low Profile Series complements the latest designs of today's trucks. The toolbox sits just 2" above the truck bed rails instead of the standard 4," providing a better view out the back window for maneuvering or keeping an eye on your load. The insulated, beveled, single lid opens fully to 90 degrees with the help of two super-duty lift cylinders, which raise the lid and hold it open as you load and unload your gear. Smaller items and tools can be stored conveniently on the divided, sliding tray, ensuring they are readily available for use.

Video Transcript for UWS Crossover Style Truck Bed Toolbox Review - 2013 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2013 Chevrolet Silverado we're gonna be taking a look at the UWS truck bed toolbox. Adding a toolbox is gonna give you more space but it also adds to the look. So this one is gloss black but we also have a bright aluminum option if that goes better with your truck. we're gonna have latches on both sides and it's very easy to undo from the side of your truck. And it opens up automatically, I like that, and the gas struts are gonna help with that. But notice on this side we don't have a locking core.

We are gonna get a set of keys, but there's only one core. So on the other side is where it's at. It makes sense because whenever I'm loading up the toolbox I load it all up, get everything in there, shut it from the side, from the outside and then lock this thing up and get in the truck and go. So that makes sense that it's on the driver's side but it is nice that they include two keys with our kit. This is a crossover style, what that means is we're gonna have a little bit of room underneath so we can put some PVC pipes, some lumber, loading ramps, whatever you may have.

And that's kind of nice to have for some of the longer stuff you may be hauling. So something that is gonna be useful when you're calculating how much room you're gonna have. So from the top of your bed rails down to the bottom part right here, that's gonna be about 11 and three quarters of an inch. So just measure that down. And then the distance from that on is gonna be how much room you're working with.

This is a crossover style so we're gonna have a little bit more room underneath for some lumber, some pipe or loading ramps, whatever you may have. So on this Chevy Silverado to the bottom of the box to the top of our mat is about nine inches, but the mat is about a half inch tick, so take that in consideration, around nine and a half inches we're gonna be working with. We're also gonna have a little bit of room on each side. This thing is perfectly left even, both right and left. So we have about three and a half inches of space right here for some other cargo.

This is the low profile version of the box. So we're not gonna have a whole lot of height added to our rails. So from top of our rails to the top of our lid here is three inches. And one thing about the lid, notice kind of how it overhangs right here. So when I open this up, you'll be able to see that we do have a seal in there as well. So the mixture with the seal and the overlap is just going to make sure there's not gonna be any moisture or water getting in there. And also if you live on a gravel road like me that dust gets everywhere, especially in the bed of the truck, but with that overhang and the little seal we don't have to worry about our tools getting all dirty. The lid opens at almost a 90 degree angle, so that's gonna be great for some of the bigger items that you may have so you can pick them up straight, you don't have to kind of wiggle it out of the lid. So with a standard size cooler like this, it fits in there nice and neat. And another thing with this is the amount of space it's really getting us. This is gonna give us 7.5 cubic feet of space. Doesn't really do a whole lot for me so let's just show you what we got going on here. We can fit a lot more in here, which what right now I just have a couple different boxes of tools. And then I do have some larger tool boxes for my drills and such. So we have a couple of these in there, which is good for a couple different drills, a decent amount of batteries and such. We have a standard size cooler from my lunch and that fits in there real nice. And we have the sliding tray as well which is hiding our other box. So this is pretty much everything I need for the little things that I do on the side. But it's nice that they give you some spots for your other type of tools like your screwdrivers and stuff. So on both sides, we're gonna have five different slots. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, one on each side. But one thing to note, if we did have a taller screw driver like this one, this is in line with our strut so as I start to close it there is gonna be a little bit of contact, so be mindful of that. Maybe put your shorter ones closer to your cab and the longer ones out back. But there is also a decent amount of storage space here if you wanted to keep all of that there, it's not gonna have any contact with it just because the lid is gonna sit a little bit higher than the edge of the box. So there's a lot of different ways we can configure this, it's all up to you. Just know that there is plenty of room for a lot of the stuff I have. The tray's a nice little edition that they throw in with it. Something to kind of keep in mind though notice how I do have a box underneath, and it does allow us to slide anything from the bottom of the box up nine inches is gonna clear, but like my cooler here, it's not gonna clear that. So we kind of wanna strategize exactly where you put all your stuff. And even if we do have this thing completely stacked up, so whenever we maybe get on the gas or going up a steep hill some of this stuff is gonna kind of slide this way, and that's where this rod is. So it's nice that they leave this little plate here. So that's just gonna protect that rod so it's always gonna be free, so your stuff isn't gonna get locked in there. I have seen some that don't have this guard here and when all that stuff gets all piled up it makes the latch mechanism work a little bit harder, and so not as easy to open it up. So this is definitely a nice addition so you can pack it all up and know that it's not going to not work whenever you try to open it. The whole box is made of aluminum but these little plates here for our latching mechanism are be made of stainless steel, so they're not gonna rust away over time. There are some little adjustments that you can make if need be. Out of the box this thing was perfectly adjusted so everything opens up right and it all closes really, really easily. A lot of people think they have to slam these shut. If it's probably adjusted, all you have to do is just have to take two fingers and latch it down. So it's not really hard at all. The rest of the box is gonna be aluminum so it's not going to rust away either. And it is nice that we do have these gas struts here cause you can notice that when I just lift that up it opens up fast and then it kind of slows down, and we have plenty of room in between our cab and the lid. So you don't have to worry about any contact or anything like that, so that's always good so you're not damaging your truck. Speaking of that, there is gonna be a little foam pad that comes with it too. So if you do tend to take this on and off it's not gonna scratch up your rails if you don't have any guards in place. So it's nice that they threw that in. And it's really easy to remove and put on. There's a simple little J hook right here. So, all you gotta do is do this in reverse order. Just a little hook. I'm gonna put this up, put this in place. It just goes underneath the lip on the rail of your truck. And we're going to, I like to get this down hand tight and you can take a 13 millimeter socket to completely tighten it up very easy. The overall external dimensions of the box is gonna be 67 inches from edge to edge. It's gonna be 20 inches deep. And as far as how tall it's gonna be, that is 15 inches. The internal dimensions from our gas struts right here to the other side is gonna be 53 inches. And we can stack stuff all the way up to 13 inches without the lid hitting some of our stuff. The low profile cross over type tool box is for you, if you don't really wanna see a whole lot of toolbox out your back window right here, cuz this, on all the trucks that we tested these on, which is a lot, they all tend to be a little bit below the seats in the headrests in your back seat, so it's not going to hinder your view at all. So that's what they're kind of going for with the low profile design, but also, they don't want to take up your whole entire bed so you can still slide some other things underneath. If you do want a toolbox that it's gonna be a little bit deeper so you can get stuff like a 5 gallon bucket or whatever those taller items, then you can definitely go check those out. But this kind of gives you a little bit of bed space to play with and not hinder your vision in your back window. And that's pretty much it for our look at the UWS truck bed toolbox on our 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2,500..

very good box no problems feels very solid when you put lid down im very happy

When I purchased the toolbox I forgot to mention that I have a bed liner in my vehicle. Therefore I had to put a 3/4 inch spacer on the top bed rails so the bottom of the toolbox would clear the bed liner over the wheel wells and fuel tank spout. Other then that I really have enjoyed the toolbox and have gotten many compliments as well.

by:

Been happy with my purchase. I gave it 4/5 stars because it arrived with a dent on the lid that I was able to remove with a rubber mallet and a 2x4. The metal inside reflects poor workmanship. There are some sharp edges near the latch mechanism that I discovered firsthand after reaching in there. Aside from those issues it has functioned well and I find the dual lid release latches are convenient.

After 2 weeks I finally got my toolbox this is good for a 2001 Ford ranger stepside it doesn't say it would fit but I measured it before I bought it had one little ding in the corner but I touched it up with spray paint overall it's an excellent toolbox and it fit perfectly this is originally for a Chevy S10 but I measured it and it fits good I would recommend this to anyone who owns a Ford ranger stepside! Check out the pictures you can see how well it fits! It is hard to find a toolbox that fits a Ford ranger stepside I used to work in the Marine Corps parts department in the motor pool so I know how to measure parts at first they said this wouldn't fit my truck but I told them I measured it!

My UWS Crossover tool box fit great. Only minutes to install. Looks great and needed on my 05 Ford Ranger single cab.

by:

The tool box works great. Works for what we needed and is low profile.

by:

I've had bed box for almost a year now. So far so good. The finish looks as good as the day I installed the box, which by the way was a snap to install. I'm very happy with this product and glad I didn't go for one of the less expensive products like a few of my buddies did. Most of them have constant problems with their bed boxes. IE: hinges freezing up latch problems and most of all the finishes that aren't holding up.

by:

I've had this tool box for about a year. Its held up well without issue. This replaced a 9 year old tool box from Lowes that cracked at the bed support. So far so good on this one. The locking and opening mechanism works great and is covered so things dont bind it up. The only strange thing is that after a windy snow storm there was snow inside the tool box and I hadn't driven anywhere.

by:

I was so happy to get this for my son. The only one i could find that would fit his ranger at the time. he uses it every day and it works great after one year. packaging , no scratches, and installed so easy that i went and bought me one. would recommend. sorry not much for technology or i would have added photos.

Fast and friendly service.

by:

Awesome package, looks great, fits perfect. Delivery time excellent

by:

The truck box is a good looking truck box but that’s about all the good I can say about it. The striker for the latch continuously came loose causing the lid not to latch completely and the top to come open going down the road. I fixed this by putting loctite on the nuts holding the striker in place. The gaskets along the lid have completely turned loose and are no longer there. The keys never worked from the first day. Overall not very satisfied with the quality of the box for the price.

by:

Here is a picture of the tool box I ordered, installed on my truck.

by:

Toolbox came as advertised. Perfect fit in truck bed. Sturdy and well built. Easy to install. Exactly what I was expecting

by:

I highly recommend etrailer for any trailer or truck parts. I have never worked with anyone that was as knowledgeable and helpful. The process was flawless. Further, after I made my order, they followed up and let me know several times how the order and shipment was progressing.

by:

Top of the line service and product. Very happy with entire transaction. One year later box still looks and performs like new. Thanks

by:

Box fit great. Installed in minutes with no drilling holes in truck. The black finish matched truck perfectly.I like the lid that raises automatic but stops before hitting the cab of the truck.

by:

by:

by:
