Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for DIY Install: Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver on your 2007 Cadillac SRX

All right. Today on this 2007 Cadillac SRX, we're going to install Part Number 75174 from Draw-Tite. All right. Now, this is what the hitch looks like once installed on the vehicle. Next, we'll give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin opening to the edge of the bumper is going to be 1-3/4 inches and from the top of the receiver opening down to the ground, will be 15-3/4 inches.

Now, we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. Our first step is we need to go ahead and lower the spare tire and get it out of our way. We'll also use the strap to help support the exhaust while we're doing our work. Then we'll go ahead and disconnect the exhaust from the rubber hangers, we'll spray them down with some lubricant and then go ahead and remove them. All right.

Now, we'll go ahead and remove the rearmost hanger exhaust brackets from the end of the frame. To remove the brackets, there will be three nuts that secure the hanger brackets to the frame. Remove those three, so with the hardware gone, we'll go ahead and remove the exhaust hanger brackets. Now, on the lowest stud closest to the ground, we'll have to use a grinder to remove it to cut it off. (Repeat exhaust removal steps on the opposite side).

Okay. Next, we'll go ahead and modify the heat shields. Starting from the rounded edge from the bumper working our way back, we'll follow it down until it goes to where it curves down. And then just before the next plastic rivet, we'll go ahead and draw a line straight down. We'll cut up that straight line and then fold the heat shields out of our way.

We're done with the passenger's side, we'll repeat the same process over on the driver's side. Now, we'll go ahead and re-install the exhaust hanger brackets using the two out of three nuts removed and we must make sure that the hanger bracket must be oriented so that this hole in the bracket aligns with the retaining clip on the vehicle. Now before we can install our hitch, you'll notice there are three threaded holes on each side of the frame. We'll take a moment to clean them out with some lubricant then we'll use the tube brush to help clean up the threads and that will be Part Number 814092. Now the older the vehicle is, the more work this will take. Eventually, you may have to use a thread tap to clean out the threads. We'll clean up the threads as best as we can and then run a bolt in there to test it out. Once we can install the bolt, we can go ahead and start installing the hitch. It's a good idea to have an extra set of hands to help lift up the hitch in position and when we install the hardware, we'll use a bolt and a conical tooth washers. Now, we'll install the conical tooth washers, we'll make sure the teeth are pointing towards the hitch. With all the hardware loosely installed, we can go ahead and tighten down the bolts then torque them down as specified in instructions, and then we can go ahead and re-attach the exhaust and raise the spare tire. With that, that will finish it for install Part Number 75174 from Draw-Tite on our 2007 Cadillac SRX.

It fits perfectly and looks great. The instructions were very accurate. The only thing I need to mention is how difficult it is for 1 person.

by:

I ordered the hitch and bought the wiring kit for it as well and I am very pleased with the product. The hitch was heavy and very durable - looked good and fit like a glove. Installation was simple and the install video was a great tool to view before and during install. I would highly recommend this hitch to anyone also having a second person to help with install is a must.

Troy, What year is your SRX and how difficult is it to install the wiring kit? Did the video come with the hitch?Any additional insight would be great. Thanks!

The hitch fit well and was not to hard to install, my only complaint is the shipping packaging could have been better, the shipper destroyed the box it was in and the hatch has several places that are now missing paint, it should have been wrapped in either plastic bubble wrap or paper to protect it better. I was worried that the bolts would not fit as some had said in the past , but they were correct and now I have a hitch !

The hitch is mechanically fine, but the areas where the paint was chipped off during shipping are rusting and need some work.

Fits up out of the way, doesn’t hang down low. Good and sturdy. Very nice looking. It is heavy. Had to have two people to install it. It was difficult because of being heavy. One to hold it up, one to screw the bolt in. We had to use a floor jack. But it fit like a glove.

I've had this hitch on my '06 Cadillac SRX for a year, and it's worked great. I use it primarily for a 5-bicycle rack, but have also used it to haul a four-wheeler on a trailer. No issues -- nice and solid.

by:

Better then the OEM offering. I feel confident towing anything with this hitch. And it installed easily with great directions!

by:
2007 Cadillac SRX

Watch the video about 10 times and installed the hitch in 50 minutes with the help of a friend. No problems. Did purchase the brush mentioned in the video for cleaning the hole and that was all that was needed to get the bolts started.

by:

The hitch was exactly as described and they helped me ensure I was ordering the right one to fit my vehicle. Good service.

  • Class III Hitch & Weight Distribution System for 2005 Cadillac SRX Towing 5000-lb Travel Trailer
Both the Curt # C13050 and Draw-Tite # 75174 Class III round tube hitches for your 2005 Cadillac SRX share identical capacities and installation steps so between them I'd go for the Curt since it costs a bit less. The phrase 'max frame' is marketing terminology and does not denote any special feature or capability. Hitches with round versus square cross tubes are sometimes considered to have more eye appeal on passenger cars, but this is purely a cosmetic matter. When used with a weight...

  • What is the Difference Between Curt C13050 and Draw-Tite 75174 for a 2007 Cadillac SRX
The Curt # C13050 and Draw-Tite # 75174 are very similar in design. The Draw-Tite model isn't listed as a fit for Sport Package equipped models, but the Curt hitch is a fit. If your SRX isn't the Sport model, that won't be a consideration and you could choose either htich. Both hitches have the same capacity and would install in a similar manner. The crosstube and recevier tube of either hitch will be visible under the rear bumper. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you might need the...

Yes, you can tow a trailer with your 2007 Cadillac SRX so long as it is under 2,000 lbs.
