V-Bar Icebreakers

V-Bar Icebreakers

These chains are outstanding in serious winter weather conditions because the V-bar studs can bust through intense ice and packed snow. So, you'll be able to get to work and back home again even in the toughest weather. You can also use them if you ever go off-roading and end up in a mud-digging situation. These chains are going to help give your vehicle purchase to pull out and keep moving.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire, ensuring that the V-bar studs face away from the tire.

Make connections

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Attach optional tensioners

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Attach optional tensioners

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Tighten any loose cams. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to help give you a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

A litte bit of a learning curve with how to tighten, but once figured out they stayed in place wonderfully in the snow- far better than our friends with cables! Definitely recommend and great customer service- also arrived really fast!

by:

My tire chains arrived in a very timely manner. I checked them out and they are exactly as described. Have not installed them yet, but know they will be perfect.

Well made product. Had to be back ordered but staff were attentive and the follow through was excellent. The chains are aggressive and appear to be well suited for my needs traveling in remote off road conditions. The only suggestion I have is to include installation instructions for those not mechanically inclined. I would recommend this product.

The product is great. The only problem I have is apparently UPS has a difficult time trying to find our address. I had to go over to the neighbors to retrieve my purchase. Not a etrailer problem. I tried my chains on and they fitted great. We will definitely use etrailer again.

by:

Chains are very good quality and sensibly priced. Will buy from you again.

good job, maybe a simple paper how to guide would be helpful.

Tire chains work great

by:

These chains are as chunky and sturdy as they look. I haven't tested them on snow yet but I think they will be fine. They are reasonably intuitive to fit, but be sure to try them out before you need them!

Great set of chains, worked perfect on my 2015 Ford Explorer with 245/60 R18 tires. Watch the installation videos and give them a practice in ideal conditions, so when you’re in the elements and have to get it do e you’ll have the process down. I would also suggest to keep a small bungee cord in the bag with the chains to help give a little length to the links that hook around the backside of the tire to make it easier to grab to help pull the links to the hook. Otherwise these are awesome and great for ice or snow, and seem to be high quality.

by:

Best tire chains that I ever owned . Easy to put on the tires and they stay put.

by:

I do snow plowing with a 1 ton truck. These Titan Chains allow me to plow deep snow up grades and even when there is a thick layer of ice under the snow. The V grips really dig into the snow, ice and gravel. On paved and cement surfaces they will scar the surface, but under adverse conditions they get the job done!

by:

The chains bite into hard packed snow. Was able to move an 8k trailer that probably would not have been possible otherwise. The connecting link is great. The cam wrench has a little to be desired, a tee style would provide more control for easier tightening. I had to choke these chains up to the tightest link for my stock tires, I wonder if they will be loose as the tires wear. The chains seemed very loose after removing the spider straps. They made the ride very rough at 5mph, these are definitely for off road.

by:

Needed some individual adjustments (shortening, removing one cross-link) to my tires (no complain). After that, fitted very tight and performed above expectations on an unplowed section of road from the highway to my lake cabin.

  • What Snow Tire Chains will Fit My 26x8x12 ATV Tires?
I have a great tire chain solution for your ATV. Unfortunately, the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains w/ Cams - Ladder Pattern - V-Bar Link # TC2816CAM will not fit your 26x8x12 ATV tires. However, for a great alternative that will fit, I recommend the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - V-Bar Link # TCATV3-4. These chains have the same V-bar studs as the # TC2816CAM for excellent traction in deep snow and ice. To make installation and tightening easier, I recommend the tensioners...

  • Availability of Tire Chains that Fit Tire Size 35x12.50R20
Yes we do offer tire chains that fit the tire size 35x12.50R20 that you have which you can see all of them at the attached link on this page. Our most popular option is the Titan chains part # TC2335 which install easily, provide great traction, are smoother riding due to the diamond pattern, and are priced great. If you were looking for a V-bar setup like the chains you mentioned you'd want the # TC3835 instead. V-bar chains do great in icy conditions as they break the ice up well.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for Airstream Flying Cloud Travel Trailer
I'll provide 2 options for you, one that's recommended for snow and ice, and one that works better for snow only. For snow and icy conditions, the Titan V-bar chains, part # TC2816CAM features V-shaped studs that really bite into the ice for superior traction. The chain set includes a cam-style tightener, but I'd still recommend using adjusters like part # TCMA2. If you're not going to encounter much in the way of ice, but will be dealing with snowy conditions, the Titan Twist-Link chain...

  • Tire Chains that Fit Size 305/65-18
I attached a link to a page that has all of the tire chains we offer that fit your tire size of 305/65-18 but I really like the Pewag Starwave chains part # PW94FR which provide great traction, are lighter weight, and will last a very long time.

  • Best Snow Tire Chain for 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV
I have a couple options for tire chains for your 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV. It depends on what situation you want them for. My personal favorite is the Titan Chain Alloy Tire Chain # TC1545 with its diamond pattern and relatively easy to install design. The diamond pattern has more tire coverage than your traditional ladder style chains, so it is great with maneuvers like sharp turns or quick stops. If you're planning on driving through mud a lot, then Titan Chain Tire Chains with Cams...
