These chains are the perfect solution for compact SUVs and crossovers with limited wheel-well clearance because they ride solely on your tire tread. Chains automatically tighten and align as you drive so you don't have to recheck tension.

Features:

  • Provides excellent traction in snow and ice
    • Square links dig in and provide good grip - small size makes for a less bumpy ride
    • Diamond pattern offers constant traction and a smoother ride than ladder patterns
    • Traction plates bust ice apart
  • Made for passenger vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance
    • Meets SAE Class S standards
    • Creates zero interference behind the wheel
  • Automatically tightens around tire as you drive - no need to stop and tension
    • Securely attaches to wheel lug nut for installation
    • Maintains grip on tire thanks to strong materials and geometric design
  • Removes quickly with external release system
    • Sturdy arms can be folded for compact storage
  • Offers protection for wheel rims - chains sit on tire treads only, leaving wheels untouched
  • Includes nylon storage bag and 3 lug nut adapters (17 mm and 21-22 mm)

Specs:

  • Fits: 17" - 21" tires
  • Lug nut/bolt size: 17 mm and 21 to 22 mm
  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • Internal clearance required: none
  • 5-Year warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

If you're looking for a way to get traction in the snow without scratching your rims, these K-Summit chains are your best option. The chain only sits on the tire tread and is fastened to one of the lug nuts on your wheel with an easy-to-use fixing key. There are no attachments behind the wheel like typical tire chains, which ensures that there is no interference with any suspension or braking components on the inside of the wheel well. You won't have to stop and readjust these chains either - they self-tension, self-center, and conform to the tire perfectly as you drive, providing a precise fit even on worn tires. These chains are ideal for use in light snow and ice.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you wont be stuck out in the cold later with snow cables that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Because these chains are customizable, the first fitting could take a little time but after that, it's simple. The included instructions will let you know if you need to adjust the chains based on your tire size.

Remove lug cover if present

1. To begin installation, you'll need access to your wheel's lug nuts. If you have a plate covering your lug nuts, pop it off using either the included Allen key or a flathead screwdriver.

Determine size of lug nuts

2. Determine which lug nut adapter you'll need to fit over the nut on your wheel. Attach that adapter to the included fixing key. The most commonly used adapters are included.

Lay chains over tire thread

3. Fit the chain over your wheel, getting it as far onto the tire as possible.

Tighten lug nut adapter

4. Using the fixing key, thread the included bolt into the adapter. The other end of the fixing key will attach to the K-Summit base, which includes the ratcheting mechanism that tensions the chains as you drive.

The adapter secures over your lug nut to hold the K-Summit base in place on your wheel. You might need to use the included spacer to get the chains to sit properly.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • Low Clearance Tire Chain for 2020 Ford Transit T350 with Tire 235/65R16
Normally Class S compatible tire chains require at least 12 mm of clearance so while the clearance you require is Class S not all Class S options would have enough clearance. The only option we have that would provide you with enough clearance would be the Konig K-Summit # th02230k55 as it does not drape over the inner shoulder of the tire at all.

  • Konig K-Summit Tire Chain that Fits Tire Size 285/40R19 of 2021 Tesla Model S
Since your 2021 Tesla Model S has the tire size of 285/45R19 we know the K-Summit chains part # TH02230K55 are a fit since they are fit by tire size and not by vehicle. I am sure it's just a matter of Konig's site not having the correct tire size info for your vehicle at the time you checked.

  • Snow Chains For 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan 4 Motion
I do have an option for you but I was not able to access the owner's manual for your 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan 4 Motion. It is very likely that you have limited clearance to use snow chains on the Tiguan. I recommend to use the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains part # th02230k55 to eliminate the worry of clearance. The Konig K-Summit XL chains just fit around the tire tread of the 235/50-19 tire and attaches with the lug nut adapters. I still recommend to take a look at the copy...

The Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, # th02230k55 will fit your 285/35-20 tires. I am not seeing any indication why this will not fit well with your current arrangement.

Hello Michael. I double checked with Konig, and their fit guide states that the K-Summit XL K55 will fit the 2024 Tesla Model S. We have these chains as part # th02230k55. They do state that these will only fit models with the 285/40-19 tires so please do confirm that this is your tire size. If you happen to have a different tires size, feel free to post it in the comment below and I am happy to make a recommendation. As with any tire chains, we do recommend that you check your owner's...

  • 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland Snow Chain Recommendation
My recommendation for your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland are the Konig Tire Self-Tensioning Snow Chains # th02230k55. These are a Class S chain that you often see required for large, aftermarket tires. Clearance is a concern using snow chains and it sounds like something you're seeing as well with the distance between the inside sidewall and struts. Since these Konig chains only ride on your vehicle's tread, they are an ideal solution for trucks and SUVs with limited clearance. Especially...
