  • Quantity: 2 chains
  • 90-Day warranty

Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you extra traction in deep snow. But if you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with square or V-bar links that can really bite into the ice for more traction.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new snow chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing tire chains is easy.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Cross chain connections should have the prongs facing away from the tire

2. Drape the chain over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.

Connect chains on the back and front of the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Use tool to tighten cams on the sidewall chains

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Rubber adjusters ensure a tight fit

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chains tension. Tighten any loose cams.

If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Glacier Twist Link Snow Tire Chains with Cam Tighteners Review PWH2216sc

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Glacier Twisted Length Snow Tire Chain with cam tensioners. These are available in a wide variety of sizes to fit many different applications. Designed for highway use and not intended for off road applications, our tire chains do have a 30 mile an hour speed rating. As you can see, we've got a twisted length design. That gives us a raised edge on two points of our length to help get good traction for when we're taking off and stopping. They've constructed it using a low carbon steel, so we're not going to have to worry about a ton of corrosion. These chains have been designed for highway use.

They've got a rounded edge, it kind of smooths out our ride going down the road. Also, these chains are great for use on the rear axle or the front axle of front wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles. They've designed it in a ladder style. This is going to help us with taking off and stopping in a straight line so that this chain is going to go all the way across our tire. Now that we've gone over the features, let's show you how to get this installed. As you can see, we've spread it out here to check to make sure we have all the twists out and things like that, make sure we don't have any kinks.

Then we'll grab the side away from our tensioners. We just want to work this up and over our tire. We'll set this so that our front ladder rung or the first cross chain will sit there in front of the vehicle. Now it's time to roll it forward and allow those lengths to go underneath our wheel there. As you can see, we've got it up to about our third or fourth spot here. We'll now take the tag end, we're going to connect it on one of the six lengths there.

Let's do the fourth one, what I like to do is let those hang down so we're getting a direct connect onto our length. As you can see, we do have three extras hanging over there on the back side. We'll bring it around to the front. We've got a plus or a minus of one, so we have the option of using the third the fourth or the fifth length. I think the fourth is going to serve our purpose here. Bring that through, cam that over and there's a spare length that's hanging out here.

That's just going to go over and hold that into place for us. It's now time to start tightening our tensioners. We'll use our tensioning tools, place it in and rotate them around. As you can see, that's going to draw in some of the slack we've got and get each of our lengths of chains nice and tight. Now that we've got all of our cams tight, you'll see our chain's tightened up. We still have three excess lengths hanging off of each side of our chain here. One option would be to try to tuck that in behind our chain, to where it's not going to be flipping around. The other option would just be to cut it right off there, remove it completely. That way you won't have to worry about it slipping out as you're heading down the road. As with any manually adjusted chain, we do recommend the use of a chain tensioner. The one I've got here today is a really neat one from Glacier, the part number on it is PW105. It's got six lengths on it, as you can see, you're just going to connect those kind of evenly around our tire. That one's not so even. Kind of connect those evenly around, that's going to give us that extra little bit of force that we need to really hold our chains in place. Now that we've seen how the chain installs and how it's going to fit onto our vehicle, let's take a look and see how it performs with some footage we have of it in action. That will complete today's look at the Glacier Twist Length Snow Tire Chains with cam tighteners. .

Delivered the wrong size chains. I ordered 255/55/20 I received chains for 15 inch rims. Dealing with a Phillip H at your company no positive solutions.

Great tire chains! Good quality, good price, and excellent service!!

by:

Had to pull the chains out for the first time last month when my 1991 F-250 got held up on a very slick and steep ice covered road. They fit over my LT215/85R-16 Firestone Winterforce LT E tires very nicely and on the first try with no problems. I have only used chains on smaller cars before this but these installed very easily with the caming links and included tool for tightning. These chains seem to have a good range of adjustment and were also easy to remove. They seem sturdy and well made and of course traction was very solid once they were installed. Highly recommended.

Excellent chains on 2005 GMC Sierra. Cam Locks are good but you really need to use a tire bungee or equivalent to pull the chains tighter. I use wire ties for the extra length of chain on the inside and outside firewall. Turns the truck into a total snow beast, I have yet to get stuck and have never used the winch I bought for that purpose.

by:

Although I haven't used them in ice or snow yet, the snow chains appear to be of great quality and are very easy to install. The cam tighteners work nicely and hold the chain on the tire with no slack. Etrailer.com was great to work with. Ordering was easy. They kept me updated via email during the shipping process. They upgraded my free shipping and I received my order in 2 business days instead of 7 as projected originally. I can tell that they care about their customers.

by:

2017 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins. These chains were easy to install and fit solidly. They do not have the cam system so you will need bungee cords. I set up 2 rubber bungees per tire and added a hook in the middle. Works perfect. They fit my 285/65/20s with room to spare. I have not used these in the field yet but I grew up using tires chains and these are no different.

Great chains, used them last year at Lake Tahoe during an epic week of snow and ice. Best combination of strong chains that'll last and easy on/off.

by:

I haven’t needed to use them, but I did do a test fit and they seem very well made. I really like the twist lock tightened as well.

Perfect fit for my van.

I drive
a 2016 144" 2wd, high top Sprinter van. During the summer it moves a lot of ice cream, via 400lb ice cream carts. During the winter, it moves me to Mammoth. When the conditions are good (for skiing).....road conditions suck...super cold and icy.....395 from Bishop to Mammoth is often closed, and if open...chains or 4x4 snow tires mandatory.

I've purchased other products here...This site consistently provides useful revues and sizing fitment advise...I also took etrailer's recommendation to my regular tire guy to confirm is was a good match- which he confirmed.

*Any Sprinter specific owners reading this.....the stock tires felt super sketchy in icy high sierra without the chains. But with them on, and, since I roll with a 750lb. lift gate weighing down the back end.....back tires chained up.....I felt really safe. I did need to trim a 3-4 links off to stop the inside access chain links banging on the axel (bolt cutters from Mammoth Chevron) after a day of riding around on them to make sure I had correct fit. This level of fitment should be expected.

**I never review things online. I believe the email from etrailer, which led me to this review is the first i've received from them.....maybe 1 year since I bought the chains?....perfect amount of contact.

***Attached is a picture of me at Mammoth, because who wants to see a picture of well fitting chains.

Chains fit well, are heavy duty, and the included tightener tool worked great. Cam Tighteners are a must. Makes the job of putting the chains on easier.
I bought the dual wheel version chains for the back end as well. We tend to get ice under snow on a gravel lane. These chains should keep me moving.
I would recommend these to others.

by:

The order was handled very fast, and I got the snow chains in no time.
Those are chains for big vehicle, they are heavy and sturdy.
Comparing to diamond pattern chains that I had perilously, the new chains almost impossible to tangle. It takes just 30 seconds to lay them correctly on the ground.
In my garage I put them as instructed in the video on etrailer web page. But in real life scenario, on highway shoulder, I would probably lay them down on the ground, drive 2-3 feet forward and try to close the chains on top of the wheel (versus crawling on the ground and trying to reach behind the wheel).
The tension system is simple and intuitive. Comparing again to diamond pattern chains, this tension system is much more robust.

The only downside of those chains, they miss caring bag. The bag they where shipped in, has no zipper, and cannot be closed once open.

by:

Loaned them to a friend...he used them one time...heavy corrosion very soon after use (forest service road with snow and ice i.e., there was no salt whatsoever).

by:

These snow chains are fantastic!
We
use them on all three of our yard trucks.
Easy install, durable and virtually damage to concrete surfaces.
What else can you ask for..

by:

Everything about this order from browsing the eTrailer web site, to calling and talking to customer service (George), to ordering and receiving the tire chains was excellent. I got what I ordered and the chains fit my vehicle perfect. Thanks to eTrailer for understanding what customer service is all about.

by:

Did not fit.

by:

Received my order today. I ordered chains for both sides of dually front and back. Today I received ONE chain for ONE side of dually. ONE SINGLE CHAIN. Good work, fix it!!

by:

Installed these on both tires and it only took under 30 minutes. Watched a online video and installation went exactly as in the vid. Terrific fit on the 03 Ranger 15" 2 wheel drive vehicle.
Used 5 spoke tighteners and everything is ready to go. Drove a couple of hundred feet down the drive and all went well.

by:

Great chains! Get them on as tight as possible with all the cams facing out, drive a short way and then tighten the cams where needed. Very easy install and the grip is excellent - got us safely through the snowstorm that just hit Tahoe.

by:

great productThe chains worked great in the deep snow we were hit with over the weekend. I was the only one on my road that was able to get off the mountain. The grades here are steep and without the chains you can't get up the hills. My driveway has a 9 percent grade and I didn't even slip a tire going up it.

by:

Shipping was prompt. Haven’t used product yet so can’t speak the quality of said product

by:

These chains work great , easy to install . Can tighteners make them easy to tighten. Good price , fast delivery.

by:

2005 Silverado with unstoppable traction. Thanks! Fantastic Chains.

I recently purchased a new Ram 3500 to pull our new Keystone Outback travel trailer. My Tundra just couldn't do the job. We do a lot of national forest camping and trail riding. I have a Diamondback ATV Carrier so we can put both ATVs on the truck, hook up the trailer and go. I've used eTrailer for years and knew right where to go for my additions for the Ram. Air bag suspension and snow/mud chains were my first purchases. I haven't had a chance to chain up yet, but I know they will be fine. Its a shame the set for my Tundra doesn't fit. However, I mounted the air bags right away and immediately went on a 3600 mile round trip, Colorado Springs to Washington DC. They worked flawlessly. The ride was smooth, no porpoising, and no leaks. I recommend eTrailer every chance I get and will always go here first for my truck and trailer parts. They simply can't be beat in price, ease of ordering, quick delivery and their outstanding customer service.

Chains fit well, are heavy duty, and the included tightening tool worked great. Cam tighteners are a must.
I would recommend these to others.
My old truck is now ready for winter.
The front tires chains are PWH221SC.

I've looked for weeks for chains to fit my 34x10.5-17 tires but without luck. I even called a few other tire chain folks and they told me they couldn't help me. I then tried another search online and came across etrailer.com. They said they not only had a set of chains but they were in stock and could be shipped out the same day. They arrived in 2 days. I fit them on my truck and they fit perfectly. They are very heavy duty and exactly as etrailer said they would be. These guys are the best and I'll be referring folks to them. Thank you etrailer!!
