Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.
These pewag ladder-patterned chains are great winter weather chains for your SUV, dually truck, or 4WD vehicle. Not only do the grooved square links dig into deep snow and ice better than rounded or standard square links, but the reversible design of these chains also allows them to wear under standard use much longer than other chains. And if you're partial to American-made products, you'll be happy to know that these are made in Colorado.
If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.
We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.
You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.
Installing these chains is simple.
1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.
2. Drape the chains over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.
3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.
4. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.
Quick Tips:
To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

delivery was very fast. Thanks
If you are looking for the strongest chains these are the ones for you. Only used mine a handful of times so far on the lake and no issue at all getting traction and absolutely no sign of wear!!! Called last year to verify the size of fitment for my truck. 285-65-r18. Very friendly and helpful staff but the chains were too big when received and I was able to take one cross section out and cut the rest off for perfect fitment. Otherwise 5 star quality product.
Tire chains arrived in a timely manner, and everything worked great!
I just received the chains yesterday, a fairly quick turn around given the weight and they were out of stock. They appear to be good quality, I've yet to use them. A note, the shipping cardboard box was torn wide open upon arrival on 3 of the 4 corners, I would recommend a better quality box for shipping or contents are going to go missing. Nothing appeared to be damaged inclusive of the other items I ordered. I can imagine that most arrive this way due to the sheer weight of the chains....but still. If I needed more chains and or other items, I "would" order from etrailer.com again.
I hadn't planned on leaving a review based on my experience but received the email reminder to rate these chains. Others have had a good experience so I'm hopeful I may have just had bad luck. These were on my plow truck which is only used on my long dirt driveway. After 4 plows I had a link break at the joint of the tread and outside chain. I repaired it and shortly after another one broke on the same tire and one broke on the other tire. I've been running chains for years so I'm fairly certain this wasn't an installation problem.
The chains appear to be high quality and I like the square links.
I give it an average rating because I hope my experience is out of the norm.
Worth their weight in gold! Wouldn't buy any other tire chain after using these. Square links makes the difference and has gotten my 2001 F250 Superduty out of some tricky situations up on fire roads in the winter time with a load of snowmobiles on my flatbed. I honestly should buy another pair to have all 4 tires covered but they take up some space. Still, these chains are the cats meow!
We had just been through a bad ice storm and couldn't get out of our acreage. A second storm was coming, so I called Jesse M to select and purchase a set of chains for my truck. Jesse M was able to ship them the same day, and they arrived in the nick-of-time. If I hadn't had these chains, my family would have been stranded.
Thanks Jesse M!!
