The black handle and trim around the lock complement your vehicle's trim and give you a straight-from-the-factory look. BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.
A new tailgate can cost you hundreds - the Pop & Lock saves you the cost and aggravation of replacing a stolen tailgate.

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the Pop-and-Lock manual locking handle for your truck. This allows you to replace the existing handle in your truck so that you can operate it with a lock. If you have a tonneau cover or a cap going over your bed, this makes it really nice. You can secure your items in there, protect them from anybody walking off with them and keep everything nice and tidy. This is the metallic blue ribbon color.
So it should match up with your vehicle if you had that same color. So you get a closer look and make sure that that is a match and talk a little bit about how that lock works.So this is the BOLT lock, and basically what happens is whenever you take this sticker off and you put in your ignition key, it's going to code to that key, so you can use that to open and close the lock. You want to make sure that you use the key that you're going to be using every day so that it operates more easily. You don't want to be using the spare to code the lock, and once you code it, it can't be changed. So keep that in mind as well.
It can only be done once, so no practice runs. But it just matches right up to your original hardware. It's going to use the same mechanism to operate the lock or the handle on the inside. So just hook everything up. It does come with instructions on how to do that.So there's no cutting or drilling required with this install, it should be pretty straightforward.
No welding required either. And again, it just matches right up with your truck. This fits the 2005 through 2015 Toyota Tacoma. There is also a spot if you do have a backup camera and you want to add one in, you can place it here. You can pop out this little square or the little oval inside there to allow for that camera to sit in place.The only tools that you're going to need really to get this installed is a T30 Torx or Star Bit or driver and a 10 millimeter wrench.

The tailgate lock works great. Took me about an hour, but I was watching video (on the install) while working. Fairly easy job, and it adds a ton of utility to the truck. Great price too. I recommend watching a couple YouTube videos before doing the job. The etrailer video is great with the exception of the top cap removal. I don't recommend sepay the top cap off, but remove it as one piece by tapping it to the right. Very happy with the product.
This product is great. Very easy to install with clear instructions provided. Provides security both locally and for trips. I highly recommend for anyone with a tonneau or topper. Additionally, very speedy handling and shipping by Etrailer.
Tail Gate lock is working good after 1 year.
I have a tonno cover. opened gate and removed tailgate protection and then the access panel. removed standard gate handle,installed new handle. all good so far,operation with panel off seemed ok. still had not closed the gate. went to take off tonno roll up and my son closes gate!!!! this prevents taking off tonno roll up!! and guess what the new chrome plated expensive handle will not pull the rods out far enough to release the latches. worse the plastic handle is flexing and breaks off!! had to destroy the rest of the latch assembly to get at the rods and manually pull them to open the gate.
overall the whole plastic and metal assembly is to flimsy and flexible to work except as a chrome dress up kit !!!! cant recommend this to anyone!!Resp gq phillips
My Honda has an after-market alarm that won't allow for the installation of the electronic version of the Pop&Lock. The manual locking version of Pop&Lock was my only option. Installation was straight forward once I found a YouTube video. Installation took about one hour; but, I wasn't in a hurry. Pictures in the instructions that came with the product were blurry and didn't provide enough detail to be useful; but, the YouTube video was more than adequate. Pop&Lock should solve my need for locking the tailgate; manually.
Item arrived on time and the quality met my expectations. It took about 30 minutes to install with no issues. My only disappointment was finding out after installation that the key cannot be removed unless in the locked position. Why? This poses a great inconvenience when opening and closing frequently where security is not an issue.
I installed the etrailer Pop and Lock tailgate lock on my 2018 Honda Ridgeline. The item was delivered very quickly. The instructions were clear enough but there were several YouTube videos that made the installation easy.
Since I installed it I can't believe I went 3 years without it. Coupled with my trifold tonneau cover, I now have a secure place in the back of my truck.
Just need a tailgate lock for trips/vacations, so the manual fits my needs well without the wiring install. Good instructions and the install went well.
Easy install. Shipping sucked, took 7 days from Missouri to Florida, by the USPS. It's not called snail mail for no reason. I'm sure UPS or FedEX would have been faster, but I would have gladly paid shipping and receive it in way less time.
Part fit perfectly, however, mechanism had a LOT more play in it than the original part. I may just mount the lock cylinder that came on the new part on the old part so there is less play in the system. First time I locked the tail gate with the hard cover closed, I had to break into it to get the tail gate down.
When I first received and installed this lock I was very impressed with the quality, fit and finish! Also with the ease of installation! I notice now that, for some reason, you can't remove the key when it's in the unlocked position, which means it must be locked at all times the key is out of the lock. This makes it a bit inconvenient when you are loading and unloading several items in a short time frame and you really don't need to have it locked. The good point is thought, there's no chance of forgetting to lock it!
Thank you for the opportunity to let you know how pleased I am with my purchase. The website was easy to negotiate and the ordering was easy. The delivery time was great for the times we are going thru. A great match for my truck easy to install. I scoured the web for this part and you were the only place I found it available. The replacement cylinder alone from GMC was $58.00, and you had to configure your ignition key to fit it. I ain't no locksmith.
The product was so easy to install that after I finished; I thought about installing them for a living...Hahahaha. No, but it was very easy, and works great!

Terrible product. Instructions are super vague and the reference pictures it gives you are blurry, so worthless. Put everything together for the mechanism to not work. It takes a lot of torque to lock the tailgate. I then tried to unlock it and it would not budge. The key started to bend I was putting so much effort into twisting. I was able to unlock the tailgate by pushing on the actual mechanism itself. I tried changing everything but to no avail. I looked at every part of the unlocking mechanism to see if I could find the problem. It seemed like just turning the key could not generate enough force to unlock the tailgate. I'm glad I tested it before I put all the trim back on or I would've been screwed.
I installed the tailgate lock within 5 minutes, you provided very good and easy to follow instructions. Great product and supper fast shipment.
The actual assembly process was pretty easy. The lock cylinder was having real difficulty . turning until I put some white lithium grease on the riveted hinge bar. Finally it opened enough to work.
The locking tailgate handle installed very easy with very detailed directions. Works great and feels about the same quality as factory. Looks great and matches perfect from original.

My truck did not have a locking tailgate handle and I put on a tri fold cover and wanted to be able to keep things safe. So I shopped around and this is really the only one I can find. I was able to install it in under 15 min. It does what it's suppose to but it just seems very cheap. Not as durable as the stock one. But it works and looks good!
The installation went very easy. The instructions were clear and almost perfect. The only thing I found wrong was it said to use a 6mm driver to unscrew to bolts mounting the handle. It is actually a 10mm. The final look is great.
Found this item via google and decide to order it. After ordering I also looked [online] and seen it was some what cheaper. But went ahead and kept this order just to keep it for more of a local business. Opened the package and thought wow this is nothing but a piece of plastic. Well I installed it and while taking out the old one it too was all plastic. The only thing the clips that hold to the rods are a little more flimsy than the original. Got it installed and it wouldn’t lock unless I kinda flipped the handle while turning the key. I thought oh no this isn’t going to be good. I got out the old faithful WD-40 and sprayed the moving parts and it works like it should. So far I am pleased with the item. It is just chrome covers plastic but with normal care should last a good long time.
Looks good also on my vehicle. ( picture below).
I would recommend this item, pay a little more here but it keeps them in business. Deleobert was very fast and packaged well.
Installation went OK. Used key to lock tailgate. Using key to unlock is very stiff. Afraid I may twist off the key. Also having problems getting the top trim cap in p.ce. not easy.

So far I love it. I am replacing another locking handle that quit working in the traditional mode. Installation was easy and quick (less than an hour). The only thing I had to do differently than the instructions called for is ream out a hole slightly in the mounting bracket. But that was easy.
