Video Transcript for Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate Lights Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights, part number ALP77229. Brakes, right turn signal, left turn signal, and 4-way flashers. The Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights are going to fit both your 48" and your 60' bed widths. It comes with a 12" adapter light that can go in the middle if needed. It has a tool-free installation with a double-sided adhesive backing. It's waterproof and durable. When you pull your Alpena Trailblaze LED Tailgate Lights out of the box, and you'll see that there's going to be a quick disconnection in the middle. Go ahead and press the button in, and pull them apart.

You'll see that there will also be another section. That is because these lights are designed for 48" beds or 60" beds. So to simply put it for your 60' bed you're just going to connect the ends, placing them back together until they click in place, all the way down. Once you have them clicked together, find the end that has the 4-pole adapter, which makes it a very easy installation. Now you have 2 choices on how you can install them. It is going to go down here on this bottom side, and for easier access, we're going to go ahead and remove our tailgate.

But you don't have to do so if you don't choose. First thing we'll do is lift it up till it's about 45 degrees, pull the safety tabs, and remove the tailgate safety ties. Once you have those removed, bring it up, pull out, and slide it out. Now we'll go ahead and clean the area with alcohol wipes or alcohol to help prep it for our double-sided tape. Now we'll go ahead and test fit the lights for how you would like them to be placed. You want to make sure that you do this before you remove the tape.

Another thing, on some vehicles, you will need to make sure that you remain clear of your spare tire release hole. We'll go ahead and remove the double-sided tape and stick them into place. We'll go ahead and place the last strip into place. Again, hold it securely until it's nice and stable. Go ahead and unravel your 4-pole wire.

Go ahead and pull it over to your 4-pole's connection and make that connection. Once you've done so, tuck it up out of the way. Now we're ready to put the tailgate back in place. Now with our tailgate back in place, we'll go ahead and close it up and check out our new lights. That will do it for our review and installation of the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights, part number ALP77229.

  • Troubleshooting Turn Signals that Quit Flashing When Installing Tailgate Light Bar
A truck that age uses a flasher to cause the blinking of the turn signals. It sounds to me like the flasher has gone out. It could be that you have a short somewhere in the wiring and installing the light bar created additional heat and caused the flasher to fail.

  • Will Tailgate LED Strip Block Spare Tire Access Point On 2011 Ram 1500?
No. When installed correctly, you will not block the access for the spare tire access point when using the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights # ALP77229 on your 2011 Ram 1500. The installation video I've attached shows this adjustability.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Taillights that Stop Working When Headlights are On
Your main problem is an insufficient ground for the trailer wiring. Try improving the connection of the main ground wire of the trailer wiring harness. Make sure it is attached to a clean metal surface. Or you can run all of the trailer wires back to the main ground. This is actually the ideal solution. But you can also check the current grounds for the lights to make sure they are making a solid connection to a clean metal surface. What you described is the classic insufficient ground...

  • Length Of The Connection Wires On The Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights
Each little connection wire between the lights on the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights # ALP77229 is approximately 4" in length and the wire with the 4-pole connector is approximately 41-1/2" in length.

  • Can Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights # ALP77229 Fit 2011 Honda Ridgeline
Yes the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights # ALP77229 can work on your 2011 Honda Ridgeline RTL. It uses a 4-way connector to power which is what you'd have on your Ridgeline so it would not require an adapter.

  • How to Troubleshoot Vehicle Wiring and Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights ALP77229
The Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights # ALP77229 rely on the lighting signals from your vehicle in order to operate. The lights use the same type of 4-pole connector found on trailers; this type of wiring carries brake, turn and tail light signals. You can see which signals appear on which pin by referring to the linked photo. I suggest testing your vehicle's wiring with a tester like # PTW2993 to confirm that the necessary signals are present on the vehicle wiring. Please refer to...

  • Tailgate LED Strip Light Recommendation for 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro 4 X
For your 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro 4 X we have the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Light # ALP77229 which is a three piece LED strip light that would work well for you since you need access to the device that lowers the spare tire. • Troubleshooting Right Blinker Activating Left Light of Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights
If the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights # ALP77229 is operating in reverse you'd need to first verify that that the trailer wiring connector of your truck has power on the right pins of the 4-way with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 using the attached video link on this page as a guide. If the voltage is in the correct spots then the issue is the # ALP77229 but if not then the issue is the wiring and most likely a short there that you'd need to fix. Most likely the short would...

  • Troubleshooting the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights Part # ALP77229
It sounds to me like you have either a shorted wire or ground problem on your vehicle's 4-way trailer connector. Before you begin to check for frayed wires or an improper ground you will first want to check both ends of the trailer connector to ensure they are free of dirt/debris. Once you have established the connectors are clean you will then want to ensure the trailer connector is receiving power. To do this I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. You can then have a...

  • Will The Alpena Trailblaze LED Lights Interfere With The BLIS System On My 2018 Ford F-150
I emailed Alpena to get some clarification on their Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights, part # ALP77229. I was told that the placement of the LED lights will not block or interfere with the BLIS sensors. However, the newer model years of the Ford trucks, may think that a lightbar is really a trailer when they are hooked up to the 4-way connector due to the power draw of the lights. Alpena has not seen that be an issue with the Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights, but the lights were launched...

  • How To Add 4-Way To Truck With 7-Way Trailer Connector
The easiest option to tow a trailer with 4-way when you have a 7-way would be an adapter, the Adapter 7 Pole to 4 Pole part # 47345. If you need to use both or would just like to have both accessible at the same time then you can swap out the existing 7-way with a 4 and 7-way, the 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket part # HM40975-11998 or just the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket part # HM40975.

  • Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Light Bar Does Not Show Passenger Side Lights
For starters, I recommend that you check the ground for the 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle as this could very well be causing your issue. If the ground checks out then this leads me to believe there is an issue with the trailer connector on your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado or the trailer connector on the Alpena Trailblaze Tailgate LED Lights part # ALP77229. I see you said that you replaced the 4-way but I didn't catch if it was the 4-way on the vehicle or the 4-way on the light...
