1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Let's take a look at this Rambler ST235/80R16 Load Range E Radial Trailer Tire with the 16-inch Vesper silver mod wheel with the 6 on 5 and a 1/2-inch bolt pattern. This tire and wheel assembly is going to be great for your stock trailers, your utility trailers and campers. This special trailer tire or ST tire has sturdy sidewalls, so that it can handle heavy loads, and it is created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles. This radial tire is gonna be great for highway use, and it is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords giving you increased durability.
The nylon tread firming belt overlays are gonna help prevent tread separation and tread bars are gonna offer a quick visual indicator of tread wear. So as I stated at the beginning of our time together, and as we have stamped here on our tire, this is an ST235/80R16. This is a Load Range E tire, meaning it has a 10-ply rating. The maximum load is 3,520 pounds at 80 PSI, and it has a speed rating of M, indicating a maximum speed of 81 miles per hour. This sturdy Vesper steel wheel, this features this modular design as you can see here, and the silver acrylic enamel finish is going to resist chipping and other damage better than your powder coat finishes.
This finish is applied after a zinc phosphate pretreatment, and it covers an eco-primer layer. So this is gonna have excellent corrosion resistance with a salt spray rating of more than a thousand hours. This wheel does use beveled stud holes, which are gonna help keep your wheels securely in place on your trailer hub. So that's gonna eliminate the need for constant re-tightening of the lug nuts. The wheel dimensions, measuring bead seat to bead seat is 16 inches in diameter and six inches wide.
And I mentioned that our bolt pattern is 6 on 5 1/2 inches. And in case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes, and that second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here, you're simply gonna measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. The wheel capacity is 3,500 pounds. The wheel stud size is 1/2 an inch by 20 or 9/16 of an inch by 18.
The center cap is sold separately. You just wanna make sure that it fits the pilot diameter of 4.25 inches. This tire and wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. The tire meets the federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard specifications, and this tire and wheel assembly does come with a platinum plus warranty that includes complimentary roadside assistance for two years. So if your trailer has a flat tire, call the helpline and a technician will come out and change the flat tire with your existing inflated spare tire. And that service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to the roadside assistance, this warranty also includes other benefits and services.
