Features to Know About

Put the Hand Crank Away

Heavy cargo, livestock, and equipment trailers can put enough weight on the tongue to make a manual landing-gear jack a chore every time you hitch or unhitch. This Bigfoot system gives you 12,000 lbs of hydraulic lifting capacity and 24" of lift, letting the onboard pump handle raising and lowering the trailer.

It is a true single-point setup with one jack and one hydraulic power unit, so you are not tying the jack into a separate trailer hydraulic system. The pump, reservoir, and hydraulic connections stay together at the front of the trailer, while the 10" x 10" pivoting foot helps maintain solid contact when the ground is not perfectly level.

Powered Setup with a Backup Plan

The kit includes the mounting brackets and hardware, hydraulic line and fittings, battery cable, 80-amp circuit breaker, and weather-resistant keyed control needed to build the powered setup. You supply a 12V battery and 3 quarts of Dexron III ATF.

The system calls for at least 4-gauge battery cable, and the pump assembly needs a solid ground through its steel mounting or a separate frame ground. Once wired, the magnetic control can stick to a steel trailer surface while you extend or retract the jack.

If the trailer's 12V system loses power, this version gives you another way to move the jack. The manual-override pump has a 1/4" hex drive that lets you operate the pump without system power. The pump assembly can also be relocated if your trailer layout calls for a different mounting position; longer hydraulic hoses are required and sold separately.

Fit the Brackets to Your Trailer Before You Drill

The adjustable B-brackets are designed around trailer frame sections from about 3-5/8" to 5-1/2" wide. They can bolt through a vertical bulkhead frame section, or the jack can be mounted directly to the frame when your trailer layout calls for it. Bolt-on does not mean every trailer already has matching holes, so compare the mounting area before installation and plan to drill where necessary.

You should set the jack so you have at least 8" to 10" of ground clearance with the trailer at ride height. Mounting hardware is included, but the supplied bolts may not be long enough for every frame thickness, so verify the trailer before you start the install.

Video Transcript for Review of Bigfoot Trailer Jack - Hydraulic Jack Single Pump - BF84FR

Hi everyone. Steve here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at the Bigfoot Hydraulic Jack. It's a single pump with an included manual override rated at 12,000 pounds lift capacity. So folks, this is a heavy duty jack, very versatile, meaning you can put it on cargo trailers, livestock trailers, construction, heavy equipment trailers, et cetera, even bumper pool or goosenecks. So starting off, you're gonna get a complete package.

You're gonna have the brackets and hardware that I don't have in front of me today. The hardware is included, and you're gonna be able to bolt this onto your trailer frame, and I like that because you don't have to worry about being a certified welder or going to find one. You can easily install this yourself. Now, when I measured all this earlier, I got four inches tall by seven and a half inches long on these upper and lower mounting brackets. And then on these four I got four inches long by two inches on the long side and one and three eighths on the short side.

And again, you're gonna have the bolts required to bolt it onto your trailer as well. As far as an overall height, fully retracted, which is where it is now, from the ground to the top of the jack, I got 34 inches. And when it's fully extended, it's 55 inches tall from the top to the ground overall. So it's a very nice jack with a decent amount of lift. Now you will require that's not included, three quarts of ATF Dexron III, again, not included.

And you're also gonna need a 12 volt battery source to power this unit up. Now that being said, if in the event you lose power, you do have a manual override option, it's here on the top and that just simply goes into a drill and you'll be able to use that to go up or down as needed. Again, in the event that you don't have 12 volt power source. Now you could technically also take off this power and reservoir unit and mount it somewhere else. Just keep in mind you only have so much length of hose here.

You may have to purchase hoses sold separately that are longer if you need to move that box, if you wanna move that box. The remote control, it's included. I like it, it's magnetic. Stick it on there, side, frame of your trailer, whatever, whatever you need. And then bringing it up here so you can see you do have a manual lockout so you can lock this on or off, meaning no one can just come up and operate the jack and mess with your trailer. And again, it is magnetic on the back there. Nice powerful magnets and you can choose to screw it in place if you want a more permanent insulation. Obviously it has a nice elegant black powder coat finish. They're calling it a gloss black, I think it looks pretty nice. It's gonna look nice on any trailer. The foot plate, I got 10 inches by 10 inches square. The corners are kind of shaved off at 45s, but if it was a a perfect square, it'd be 10 inch by 10 inch and you can actually tilt the jack leg, the foot could tilt. I just have a wedge in there so it doesn't flip over on me. But this can tilt back and forth and that foot plate then on uneven ground will help level out stuff on the fly. So very nice. Again, 12,000 pounds capacity. That's gonna wrap up our quick look together folks. I'm Steve with etrailer. As always, reach out if you have any further questions or anything that you need to go over that I missed on the Jack, and have a great day.

  • Availability of Mounting Bracket for Dexter Self-Contained Hydraulic Jack
Hi Jimmy; the Dexter Self-Contained Hydraulic Jack # DX72CR is designed to be bolted or welded onto the trailer frame. They don't offer a separate mounting bracket for installation and hardware will have to be acquired locally if you're bolting it on. If you wanted to use some kind of mounting bracket it would have to be fabricated. You could also get the Bigfoot Hydraulic Jack # BF64FR or # BF84FR you mentioned instead which includes mounting brackets and hardware. What kind of trailer...

  • Does the Bigfoot Hydraulic Jack Come with the Switches or Remote?
Hello Jeff, Great question! The Bigfoot Hydraulic Jack - Single Pump - Manual Override - 12K # BF84FR does come with a single-point control box included. The control box has two buttons along with a key switch to turn the system on and off. It also includes a wiring harness that is 6 feet long, and the control box is magnetic so you can mount it away from the unit. It does not include a separate handheld remote, the control box with the switches is what operates the system. I attached...
