Video Transcript for Setting Up Your etrailer Hard Tonneau Cover - 2022 Toyota Tundra

How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com and we're taking a look at the etrailer Quad Folding Tonneau Cover on our 2022 Toyota Tundra. Now in general, when you're adding the tonneau cover to the back of your vehicle, it's for an extra measure of security. And there are some studies out there to say that you can get additional fuel economy. However, you do pick up better aerodynamics by not having that void in the back of your vehicle. So let's take a closer look at the etrailer cover and see what's special about it. The etrailer cover is actually four panels of UV resistant materials.

The panels, the hard panels are actually a fiberglass composite that's put together, that's designed to not only give you a nice finish and not fade, but it will support up to 200 pounds evenly distributed. And you can release your cover using this latch and it's the same on both sides, and it allows you to flip your cover up. Now just taking a look at the track itself, it installs on your OEM Toyota tracks using this bracket. And I've seen a few different versions of this that we came up with. And this one is the easiest install I've seen, and it gives you a nice sturdy base.

Something to note, each section is gonna have that same release when you're folding up. And it is a quad panel, but it only folds three of the four panels. When you want to have access to your bed, you can just fasten it in right here and you get a good portion of it. However, if you do need to remove it, I can show you how those clamps clamp underneath to take it out entirely. You're gonna just loosen this knob on both sides, and you have a little bit of hardware back here.

You have a bolt cover, you have a wing nut, and you have another knob. You just untwist those things and the cover comes right off. If you need to remove the tracks, generally you won't have to if you have to take the cover out. You can just leave them right in place and then drop it right back in. What I like most about the installation, you can do it completely by yourself.

If you have another set of hands, it makes it a little easier to handle the cover, but a single person can get this installed. I would say once you're set up, maybe about 20, 30 minutes. So let me show you how to get it done. We're gonna start by putting together the assembly that works with our track and our bed for the five and a half foot model. Essentially what you're gonna need, you're gonna need the clamp, the track bracket adapter, and your bolt. And they go together just like that. Last part of your clamp is your knob and it threads right in the bottom. And then you're just gonna take your black part of your adapter and just slide that into the track. It is kind of tight back there, so it does take a little bit of wiggling, but then you can get it out. And if you kind of pull against it to work it around the bolts inside of your track, you can get it up here to the top. So I'm gonna slide the other two on the track just like that. I found when installing the cover, the caps on your track system right here on the bulkhead will get in the way. So since you're already over here, just go ahead and pop them out. Now, making sure you're paying attention to the orientation of your tracks. You're gonna install the right over here on the passenger side. That has to do with the, you know, orientation right and left is based off of being in the driver's seat. And we're just gonna push that all the way up and you can kind of see that bracket on the end. And you can see how removing the clamp on our track allows the bracket to slide into place. We wanna make sure your track is flush right here at the edge of the tail where the tailgate closes in. And we're gonna slide this into the track. You can see a opening here, and we're gonna work it into the track. We're gonna do that the same way at the other opening at the top here. We're gonna secure it using our five millimeter Allen key and the knob at the bottom of our bracket. So my bolt is just kind of like a set screw, it's gonna hold it in position in the track. And then the knob sets it underneath on the track. So it gives you a nice sturdy base for your cover. And I found that pulling the track up a little bit during this part gives you a little bit of more clearance. The knobs are super tight as far as getting a grip on them, so you kind of have to work with what you can in that space. However, once you get it to seat, it is very sturdy. And we're gonna align this at the top of our bed. Also, wanna make sure your weather stripping is on the outside. And that way it'll keep some of that moisture outside of your bed. Once we have it on top of our tracks, I'm gonna get in the bed and then we'll hook it up with our hardware. Now we're gonna take our bolt that's on the track here. I'm gonna slide it over into our bracket. I'm gonna do the same thing on the other side. Now we're gonna insert our spacer on our bolt and just feed it back through. You wanna make sure you're in the center of the space or otherwise it could shift around when you're on the road. And I'm just gonna lightly tighten it like I did the first one, and then do the same on the other side. Add my wing nut. And now that I installed the other side, we're just gonna cap this thing off. Put our bracket in the track and align it with our threaded hole. And then we're gonna use our Allen key and set the set screw on the track. We should be able to just roll her right out. And the real test, yeah, that sounds solid. So with your truck bed locked, you have some pretty decent security. Overall, the installation is super easy, and the materials are nice and rugged. In general, I am a little bit more critical on etrailer products, just to make sure that it holds up to the quality, and just so you can get an idea of what it's really like to touch it before you make that purchasing decision. So this is Ed with etrailer.com, taking a look at the etrailer Quad Hard Folding Tonneau Cover on our 2022 Toyota Tundra. Have a great day.

Folding tonneau cover protects your truck bed and secures your cargo. Folds flat to provide open truck bed access. Clamp-on installation. Cover sits 1" above bed rails.

There are large gaps in both front corner where you can see daylight. The kit included 2 different types of rubber weather stripping, but the instructions didn't show where or how to install it.

by:

Seems to be an excellent product for the price, and was very easy to install. This appears to be the etrailer clone of a more expensive brand, and that’s fine as long as the quality is there. Time will tell how well it holds up.

by:

Good instructions and fit well without fussing to much.

by:

The cover is working great for me, it is a very nice product for the price point. I did have to shave one of the latches down so it would engage and lock. I still give it a 5 star.

by:

Installed on 2025 GMC 2500HD; great fit, easy to install even though directions are lacking detail. Like what's the foam strip for? Have yet to rain test but after filling 2 front gaps at rail, there's no light coming through.

by:

Good quality cover. Easy installation

by:

Cover fit very well. Appears to be good quality
The etrailer installation video needs to update. The instructions and install has changed a little

by:

After 1 year it is still looking brand new.

by:

Keeps inside bed dry and flips open enough to hook up the 5th wheel with completely removing. So far very happy

by:

It had a broken part and after a week they still couldn't decide what to do. Replacement part or replacement cover. I sent it back and bought one elsewhere!

by:

Seems a solid and well-built product, especially considering the very good price. Only weak point might be the system used to fasten the rails to the bed, which, on my Chevy with the factory plastic bedliner, anyway, leaves them feeling slightly wobbly. This is very much the nature of these "no-drill" systems, though, and so I don't much mind that I will probably end up screwing or bolting the rails to my bed. To be clear, it works fine as it is. Nice product!

by:

Does exactly what I needed. A cover that is secure, dry and at a fraction of the cost of others. If you want flush this is not for you. But that did not matter to me.
Love it so far after 1 year.

by:

The quality of the cover seems to be there but installation could have been easier. Installed the distance between the rails was a 1/4 inch too narrow and the top would not close. The brackets which were completely different from the ones in the video had to be modified to get my 1/8 inch on each side. Also the were no spacers and brackets to lock down the forward section. Once I modified everything the cover fit and looks great. It would be nice if the installation video included the current brackets which do not work as constructed. I would suggest you try to install the new version of the brackets.

by:

Installed on a 2024 F-250. The install was very straight forward and easy to
understand, especially with the install video eTrailer provides. It fits well
and looks good. Took me about 1.5 hours to install.

by:

My new tonneau cover fits great on my 2019 Chev Colorado. It was easy to install, easy to engage with the latching and sturdy when closed. I'm happy with my purchase and recommend it anyone considering this product.

by:

There a rolled rubber seal on the back panel, does it stay inside or do you roll it out?

by:

I purchased this because the Bakflip I had extended too far into the 5'9" bed of my Sierra when folded, and interfered with my fifth wheel hitch. I was skeptical of the etrailer brand, but found both the design and construction superior to the Bakflip. I especially like the straps on the latch release of each section. I took off one star because the latches on the rear-most section do not consistently catch, but this has not been a problem.

by:

For the price, this has been a nice cover. I have had it more than a year now so I have a few thoughts. First of all, the installation was simple and straightforward. The cover itself isn’t too heavy and I was able to put it on by myself. The butyl tape came in handy because on my truck, I had a 1” gap on both forward corners and the tape sealed them up tight. At first, I had trouble with a couple of the side latches staying latched. What I discovered was my truck had a bent side rail where something heavy had been dropped on it. Once I figured that out I was able to add a shim between the attached side rail and the truck bed rail that raised it just enough for the latches to stay latched. I also like that I can leave the cover on when I hook the 5th wheel up to it. I’m using a Gen Y Executive hitch and I have plenty of clearance between 5th wheel and cover. The Tri-fold system is nice and it has straps that secure it in the open position when going down the road.
I do have one negative comment. The rear seal between the cover and the top of the tailgate is so tight that the tailgate won’t open on its own, even with the auto open feature of my truck. I don’t see any way to adjust it to take the pressure off so I’ll just have to live with that. All in all it’s a great tonneau cover and it suits me perfectly.

by:

This cover has worked flawlessly.
It
has kept the bed dry in all but the heaviest wind blown rain. Better than any other cover I have had

by:

I will give it 5 stars, only because I can’t give it 10! I love the fit and finish; I also love how simple it is to operate and that it does a very effective job at keeping water out. The only down side I can think of is the rear latch came disconnected (Set screw came loose) when I was using it at the park. It was easy to fix with allen keys at home. I love using it for vacations, we can fit so much stuff in the bed of my truck and it allows the cabin of the car to have so much space. This is great for anyone looking for bang for their buck. For the price the value is unmatched, I recommend this tonneau cover to anyone with a truck!

by:

Product came as advertised. Fit correctly and is very secure.

by:

So far the Tonneau Cover seems fine, and a great value for the price. My review is largely for the cover. With appropriate instructions it should take less than an your to install.

Unfortunately the instructions are inaccurate and the video is out of date. The video is fairly close, I would recommend following the video and ignoring the printed instructions. The bed rail clamps have changed since the video was made and a couple of the cover features are a little bit different.

Trying to follow the printed instructions cost me an extra 3 hours. I suspect the instructions were written for a different vehicle and mistakenly reprinted for a 2026 Tundra. The first step is to remove the bed rails and then insert spacers to lower the bed rails. The included tool to remove the rails is the wrong one (allen not Torx). I had to run out and get a tool. Then after removing the bed rails I discovered that this instruction step was incorrect. I had to remove the spacers and reinstall the bedrails. Very frustrating, as you can imagine.

by:

High Quality feel and materials. Fit was perfect for my Tundra. Read the installation instructions thoroughly before installation. Extra parts come in the box to adapt to different type installations. Separate the parts you need and it installs as directed.

Glad you like it, Greg! Good call on checking the instructions before you start as well. We are of the opinion it is better to have too many parts rather than too few. : ) What are you keeping in your bed?

by:

This is exactly what I was looking for. Form, fit and function are excellent and the installation was easier than what I had anticipated. All for a fraction of the cost of getting a similar product installed by the Toyota dealership. My only issue is that currently 2 of the 8 latching mechanisms are not catching the side rail when I close the cover. I suspect this requires an easy adjustment that I haven’t taken the time to figure out yet. The cover sits flush and secure to the truck bed side rails so I’m sure I can figure this out.

by:

I just finished installing the bed cover on a 2026 Tundra. The product itself is hard to complain about; seems to be good quality, time will tell. The instructions and the etrailer video leave a bit to be desired.
Thoroughly appreciate everyone I spoke to at etrailer and the quick shipping and fantastic pricing. That being said, maybe take a few days and give the instruction sheet a good look.
All this being said, the vague assembly instructions sheet was certainly not enough to keep me from buying this again. Looks much better than many more expensive covers.
