Video Transcript for Beginner’s Guide to Installing the Inno Square Bar Roof Rack for Naked Roofs on a 2008 Nissan Altima

Speaker 1: Today on our 2008 Nissan Altima, we're gonna be test fitting Inno Square bar roof rack system consisting of part numbers, INB117. These are the Inno Square Crossbars, 46 inches long, part number INSUT, these are Inno Feet for the Square Crossbars and finally part number INK116. This is the custom Fit Kit for the Inno Roof Rack System. The Inno Square Bar Roof Rack System is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof while freeing up space inside your vehicle. This can carry anything from bike racks to cargo baskets to cargo boxes. While the Square Bars are strong and sturdy, they are gonna make some noise while you drive.

Etrailer.com does carry a wide variety of Fairings that you could attach to these bars to help cut down that noise while you drive. This is very easy to install, it simply clamps around your existing doorframe and has padding where it's gonna make contact with the roof so it's not gonna have any scratches or abrasions on it while you travel. This is rubber coated, the clamp is and that's also to help protect your vehicle. The end caps do come with these locks included for anti theft and these also serve as integrated turn knobs to tighten this up against your roof as well. Now to give you a couple quick measurements, from the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is gonna be two and three quarter inches from the center to the top is gonna be three and three quarter inches, so that's more than enough space for your accessories to wrap around your bars to be attached without damaging your roof. Now the carrying capacity for the roof rack is gonna be 220 pounds, however you always want to double check with your vehicles' manufacturers recommendations before you place anything on there to make sure it can withstand those weights.

Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system, lets go ahead and show you how it installs. We already have our front bar installed on our vehicle and we'll show you how we got the measurements for that a little bit later. We have our rear bar partially assembled on our table here. We'll finish this up and then we'll start installing it on our vehicle. So we'll first place our foot on and to open up the portion where our square bar's gonna fit through, you just push down on the lever there, you can kinda see it on the inside here where that moves so you can move it back and forth on the bar. Measure out how far we need to go forward.

And this is gonna be in your instructions but it's actually gonna be as a measurement from the end of one bar to the end of the other. All right, with everything measured out properly, we'll take our end cap and that just pushes into place. And we'll flip it upside down and start installing our Fit Kit. Start by putting our rubber pad into place, matches up at the bottom there and it just pushes in.These are numbered, so just be sure you're putting the right pad in the right place according to the instructions. And finally, we'll install our clamp.

We'll start by removing the end cap here and just twist it right off like so, and we'll remove our bracket. Now we can place our clamp on like so, put our bracket back in place. You want to make sure it stays in this position even as you tighten it down on the vehicle. And then we'll just loosely place our end cap back on. Now we're ready to set this on our vehicle, we'll start by opening up the doors and taking some measurements. How we got the front bar into it's position, I measured from the center of the door jamb to the center of the front bar. When we place the rear bar in place, we'll go from the rear door jamb to the back.I measure that out on both sides to keep it even. With that done, we'll tighten up our end cap until our clamp is just snug around our door jamb. We'll do that on both sides and then we'll go back and forth and tighten it down evenly. Once it's nice and tight, we'll push in on our end cap, line it up with the hole at the top here. Push that in, and lock it into place. Now we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. And there you have it for the Inno Square Bar Roof Rack System on our 2008 Nissan Altima.

At first we didn’t think it was going to fit. We were getting nerves but after we got it on the car and figured it out it was great! Fits excellent makes no noise at all! Next will be trying a trip with the kayaks.

  • Inno Roof Rack Recommendation for 2010 Nissan Altima
The experience you described with the Sportrack is not uncommon and is why I never recommend them, for your 2010 Nissan Altima I would recommend the Inno Square bar roof rack part numbers # INB117, # INSUT, and # INK116 which we know fits really well and would not interfere in any way with your doors.

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Nissan Altima Sedan
I have a similar roof rack I can recommend for your 2009 Nissan Altima, but the Sportrack part # SR1005 is not listed as a fit. Instead the INNO rack that consists of part numbers # INB117, # INSUT, and # INK116 would be a confirmed fit that would work great and wouldn't break the bank.

  • Roof Rack and Kayak Carrying Option for 2009 Nissan Altima
Inno offers an excellent, reasonably priced roof rack option for your Altima. For the square bar roof rack, you'd need the 46 inch long crossbars, part # INB117, the # INSUT roof rack feet and the # INK116 vehicle specific clamp kit. For a kayak carrier, use the Yakima JayLow # Y04073. It's a J-style but can also carry two kayaks at once. You'll need a second set of tie-downs for the other boat, part # Y04031.
