Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.
Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.
Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

Today we are going to take a look at the Derale 14 inch Dyno-cool, straight blade electric fan. Now this fan will help increase fuel economy, the horsepower, and the torque. Improves your overall performance. This fan can be mounted on either side of the radiator to act as either a pusher or a puller with no loss of air flow. Now if you do install this as a puller application, you do want to make your wire connections as stated on the label here. The positive lead, the blue wire, would be your power and your black wire would be your ground. Now if you do want to use it in a pusher application, you do want to reverse those connections so that you can change the air flow direction. As you can see this has a very ultra, low-profile design for tight applications.
This part includes everything shown here - the mounting kit and a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install it. The maximum cubic feet per minute this fan moves is 1,100. The power draw is 12.4 amps. I do want to give you a few dimensions on this. The overall width from this edge to this edge, see if I can get a good measurement on there. We'll take this tape measure and we'll go, and you can see it is right at 14-1/8 inches.
The height from the very bottom to the very top is going to be 14-3/4 inches, and the depth of this which is measured from here to the back, is going to be right at 3-1/4 inches deep. Now the fan itself, measurement on the fan, it is a 14 inch diameter fan, and the depth on just the fan only is 1-1/4 inches deep. That should do it for the review on the Derale 14 inch, Dyno-cool, straight blade electric fan.
lasted over 5 years on 24/7/180 on green house just ordered new one.
This fan is for a project that will not be completed until the middle of 2014 or later. I plan to use it to increase the air flow through the air conditioner condenser in my 1969 Corvair convertible. I will be ordering another fan since my design requires two fans for greatest efficiency and the flow rate for these fans is on the low side. The 500 cfm fans comes with too many items that are useless for my application thereby being too expensive.
