Your coupler latch can pop open on rough roads if it's not secured. This safety lock pin clips in with a spring snap to hold it closed so your connection stays locked while you're towing.

Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer. Today we are going to be talking about RV Designer's pin and clip. Now, the one we have right here is going to be a diameter of 1/4 inch and a span of an inch and 3/8. Now, these are going to be very universal. You can use them in a lot of applications. I know some people will use them for a lot of towing accessories, like maybe to secure the handle of a fifth wheel or in our case today, with a latch.
And that's where I think these really come in handy quite a bit because it fits on there just like this, and you do have a decent amount of tension on the clip on the very top of it. Actually, you've got to put a lot of pressure on that to get it to wrap around there completely. But you can see, this is going to be the perfect distance and those specs I gave you are going to be compatible with most latches out there. So the diameter, it's actually a little bit loose in there. I don't mind that at all.
It's still going to work just fine because if you're driving down the road, you're not going to have anything disconnect, which is what we're really looking for with these pins. And that span here, you can tell it's more than enough. Now, there are gonna be some other latch couplers out there that this might just barely fit around. It might be a little bit tight. You might have a little bit of clearance issues with the top of the latch.
That's something to definitely keep in mind. But when it comes to the construction of this, this is going to have a zinc plating to it and it's going to be made out of steel. So, they are very sturdy. But other than that, that's pretty much it. They're very simple.
