Hi, Matt with Etrailer. And today we're gonna be talking about our Rhino Rack roof rack system, on top of our 2022 RAM 1500. Now this gonna be a great option for ya, if you're running outta space in the bed of your truck, or if you wanna use this in conjunction with the ladder rack, maybe you have some really long ladders or kayaks, and you need that extra support, this is gonna be the fit for you. This system is gonna be comprised of three parts. That first part is gonna be our 59-inch crossbars. We're gonna have this weather strip at the top of it, and that's gonna protect your T channel from any debris.
And it's also gonna help reduce that wind noise too. We're gonna have this end cap, and it's gonna have this anti-theft device at the very end, so no one can come by and take these towers off. And speaking about taking your towers off, or your crossbars off, we also have this lock core built into your tower. So that's gonna be additional security for your crossbars. And at the very bottom, we're gonna have the fit kit that attaches to your roof.
It's nice that we have this rubber piece at the bottom, 'cause that's gonna prevent any scratching from occurring. Now we can get some measurements on how it's gonna sit up here. So the first measurement I'm gonna get is gonna be a crossbar spread, since this is a fixed mounting position for it. And that's gonna be slightly under 25 inches. So that's not a crazy wide crossbar spread, so make sure your accessories will accommodate that.
Next up, I'm gonna get our distance between our roof and the crossbar, and that's gonna be 3.5 inches. So if you have any clamp-on accessories, they should fit under here. Now if you have anything with taller bindings, make sure you have something to accommodate that too. And for the overall height it's gonna add, we're gonna have about 4.25 inches. So what I recommend doing is taking the total height of your car, plus the crossbars, and if you have any accessories on top of that, add that too so you know what areas you can make it under.
We're also gonna have a little bit of overhang. It's nothing crazy, you're not gonna hit your head on it because it's pretty close. Ya might be able to get some accessories at the very end of here. If you have any smaller ski carriers, I think they'll fit great right here, especially if they have those thinner straps. And that's gonna be great because, you don't wanna reach really far into your vehicle to grab those accessories. So something I do like about this fit today, is the way these bases are designed. So as you can see, they're not flat, they actually have a rise to 'em. And that's designed to accommodate this curvature we have on our roof, so your crossbars sit level. And finally, what you'll be able to put up here is, you're gonna be able to put up to 165 pounds. Now just make sure your roof can handle that, you can find that in your owner's manual, and then go from the lowest component. You're also gonna be able to put on clamp-on accessories and T track accessories too. Overall, I think this is gonna be a great fit today, because how level those crossbars do sit, thanks to those bases and fit kits. It's also gonna be great if you've run outta space in your bed, like I said earlier, or, you want to use it with your ladder rack, so things sit more even up top. So it'll be great for that too. As far as the installation, it was pretty straightforward. But if you need a hand with it, just stay tuned and we'll help you with it. Let's start off the installation, we're just gonna lay everything out. So we're gonna have our crossbars in the front, and then the towers along with their end caps too. You have a key that goes with it, so you can lock and unlock them. Then we're gonna have our clamps and bases for a fit kit. And then you'll have some included tools, an Allen key, a tool to take off the end caps of your crossbar, and this other Allen key that's gonna have this torque device at the very end of it. And what I recommend is just grabbing a tape measure to make this a lot easier. We're gonna move over to our crossbar, and grab that end cap remover. Just go to the end of it, twist it, and you remove your end cap. Then we're gonna flip over the crossbar. You'll be able to tell because we have this channel that's revealed now. And I wanna grab one of our towers and put it on, just by lining up this middle block with this channel. Now in some cases, that block might be on there too tight, and if it is, what you can do is grab your included Allen key, and just loosen it up a bit. And now, you should be able to slide it right on. And once you have this side complete, I just recommend tightening it just lightly so it's not gonna be sliding all over the place. And then you can repeat the same process on the other side. Now we're gonna get the distance from one tower to the other tower. And what I like to do before I get that measurement is to make sure each tower is the same distance away from the end of your crossbar. And just make sure they both match. After when they both match, then we can get that measurement. You can find that measurement in your instructions. And just go from the inside of the tower, to the other inside of the tower, and make sure that measurement matches what your instructions have. Now we're gonna start putting together our base, and we wanna make sure we grab our M281. That's gonna go on the front left of your vehicle. And we wanna make sure when we grab this base part, that will attach to your tower, that's gonna face this direction. Gotta make sure that fatter side is on the left side of where the arrow is facing. And you're just gonna press down on this so it locks into place. You might have to maneuver it just a little bit. And when everything's locked on, then we can just line up these two channels, with this metal rod, until it clicks into place. Then we're repeat that process on the other side. We're gonna take our crossbar now and put it on top of our roof. Now, make sure that that fatter side of the fit kit is facing forward. And when it looks like that, we're just gonna roughly place it up here, and make our adjustments afterwards. Now we're gonna reference our instructions to see where this is gonna sit up here. And I'm gonna get that measurement. Make sure I adjust for that. And once I've adjusted for that, I'm gonna see how it's sitting. If you notice, we're not making contact with this groove, so, I know I'm gonna have to extend my towers. And another thing is, you wanna make sure that you have this groove underneath this base. And the way this should fit is, it should grab around this ridge up here. If yours isn't grabbing around that ridge, you'll probably have to flip this rubber base around. But what we're gonna do is change the distance of our towers. Now that we've made our adjustments, our towers are gonna sit 48.5 inches from each other. But that's on our specific vehicle. But now that we got that outta the way, we can go on to the next step, and that's gonna be putting our clamps on. So after when you've tightened these towers the rest of the way down, you're gonna remove this bolt at the very end. And with this out, we're gonna open our door. And take out our clamp. The way we wanna put this on, is line it up like so, we're gonna grab our bolt, push it through here, and thread it back in where we took it out of. Once you've started threading it, you can let this drop. And we can start tightening this down. We wanna tighten this down until it's making contact with our gutter, and then we'll go to the other side, and do the same thing. And when it's making contact on both sides, then you can tighten it down the rest of the way, with your included tool. And the way you'll notice tightened all the way is when you're turning it, and this rubber piece at the back is becoming completely straight. And if it is, then you can stop, and close your door. And now we can start putting our end caps back on. And when you put on the tower's end cap, just make sure you lock it in place too, with the included key. And we yell the end caps back on, give it a good shake test. Make sure everything's feeling nice and tight. And if it is, then you load it up with whatever accessories you have and take it on the road. Well if you liked everything you saw today, that's just a look at the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System, on top of our 2022 RAM 1500.

This was a great purchase. I originally ordered roof crossbars from somewhere else and immediately returned them. They were a universal fit and were not secure at all when they were tightened down. They were from a third seller on Amazon. I found these on etrailer and I am glad that I made the purchase. I did not want to spend the money at first that these cost, but am glad that I did. The install was easy and the crossbars are very secure and hold up well with the cargo basket installed. They were well worth the money. Can't wait to try them out when we go camping. Thank you etrailer.
Fits perfectly on my 2007 Audi A3.
People at etrailer.com were very helpful, nice and professional.
Thank you carol and george for getting me back on the trail again.
Will definitely be my to go place for all my roof rack, bike rack and other accessories.
Thank you again
etrailer.com's videos and additional customer support made the purchase of a Rhino Rack system from them for our 2010 Malibu a no brainer. The rack fit the car perfectly, and with the videos and clear instructions that came with the kit, I got it installed on the car with only one misstep. The instructions came the the measurements in centimeters and inches. I didn't have a metric tape measure, and ended up messing up converting fractions to decimal.
My Daughter is going to college 500 miles away and is moving into an unfurnished apartment and needed to pick up some small furniture that wouldn't fit in her Malibu. She purchased several items from Facebook Marketplace and was able to transport a twin bed and mattress, a medium sized desk and some dining room chairs (in several trips) with no problems.
The only thing I can think of to improve the installation would be to have the Inches measurements in decimal or to include an inexpensive metric tape.
Rhino rack 2500 with euro bars. Aero crossbars not needed because rack is easily removable when not in use.
13 ft 85 lb fishing kayak 2010 Toyota Matrix. Car has slanting roof and variable thickness roofline. See photo. OEM rack position would make front of kayak point up in the air causing dangerous lift.
Rhino rack provides different length clamps for the slanting/tapering thickness roofline - rack is positioned for level load.
Etrailer excellent website with detailed photos allows easy comparison. Prices and selections better than manufacturer's and other websites.
Customer service is also excellent, they promptly responded to calls/emails even on weekends and made extra effort to get out-of-stock items delivered much faster than expected.
We had the challenge of how to carry 2 kayaks this summer in addition to hauling a 30 foot gooseneck horse trailer. We have F450 crew cab with custom truck bed. We hoped to use the "head ache" bar on the truck bed to support the rear sets of Swagman Rincon supports and purchased a single Rhino Vortex bar for the forward sets on top of the cab. We have 10.5 and 12 foot kayaks and this looks to be an excellent solution. The kayaks are clear of the gooseneck trailer even in a "jackknife" position. Please note the truck bed is extra long therefore there is plenty of room forward the nose of the trailer. We have not hauled yet but will convey any issues if there are any. eTrailer tech support was excellent. Product shipped as projected. Installation took approximatly 3 hours.
I bought the roof rack to carry kayaks back and forth from Pennsylvania to Florida. The rack is solid and performs that task very well. My plan was to take the rack off and on but I decided to just leave it on. I do notice some wind noise since I've added the rack but it does not distract me and I would say that it is not excessive but it is noticeable.
I did have problems during the installation. I mounted the racks on a Ford 250 super duty. And the instructions were very clear as to where the feet that's support the rack where to be installed. Plastic strips are cut and the feet that support the rack on the roof push up to the cut plastic strips and that is what determines placement. I read the instructions several times and had seen an installation on another truck owned by a friend of mine. When I pushed the feet to the proper position I could not attached the clamps from the rack feet to the rain gutter on the truck which holds the whole assembly on the roof. They were too short. I spoke to Etrailer and a consensus was that I had cut the strips correctly. Etrailer's input of course was over the phone and they could not actually see or measure anything that I did. Nevertheless, in order to install the rack I had to move the feet on each side a bit closer to the rain gutter on the truck. I did not think that this would make any difference and based on the performance I have not noticed any problems. I would have given this product and excellent rating if I did not have to deal with the little problem that I had with the fit. As I said I have not taken it off the roof and I reach up and check it now and then and it's as solid as the day I put it on.
This review covers the Rhino Rack 2500 Vortex Aero crossbars and associated parts (DK284, RRRLKVA, RRVA137S-2) for a naked roof installation on a 2018 Honda CR-V.
Very solid racks. We just took our first trip using them and the didn't budge. As recommended, a few days after installing, I tightened the bolts a bit. I'm not sure they needed it--just a little insurance.
The installation process was clear, but fairly detailed. It would be easy to miss a step, so take your time. Also, I tried a couple shortcuts in the order when installing on the car, but had to back track. So, go in the order they give you.
The racks easily supported our filled "pod" and a couple surfboards, strapped side-by-side. Sorry, no photos of the rack loaded. One thing to watch out for is that our old Thule pod almost didn't fit because of the thickness of the racks. I had to loosen the bolts almost entirely.
Of note: I feel that although I followed the measurements to the millimeter, the fit on our 2018 Honda CR-V wasn't exact. Where the pads sit on the roof of the car didn't align perfectly. I could have adjusted this by just re-trimming the rubber pads that go in the channels, but it's not a big deal, so I just left it.
Finally, I do have one concern. The angle of final installation doesn't really protect the racks from theft very well. The plastic plate that locks over the screw would allow someone with the proper tool to get up under it and loosen the bolts. That being said, someone so inclined could also just break the little plastic door or drill a hole in it to access the bolt. So, I guess it's just a deterrent anyway.
Overall, I'm very happy with the racks and etrailer.com! Despite shipping delays due to Covid-19, they were able to get the racks to me in time for an upcoming trip. I did choose to expedite shipping, but the cost was very reasonable.
The Rhino Rack products are top notch and more reasonably priced that "T" or "Y" brands. (I think some accessories may be interchangeable.) I've had both "T" and "Y" racks but I'm now totally sold on the Rhino brand.
Photo attached of four Rhino,Aero bars, towers and ARB awning mounted on my '18 Colorado and Alu-Cab canopy.
My ARB awning fits fine. And the crossbars come in real handy for our canoes and some pairs panel fencing we transported last summer.
As for the staff at etrailer? Well, I'd say they take fantastic care of their customers. Knowledgeable, helpful and they followup, as well.
Etrailer also has amazing HELP videos as well. I bent the crank handle on my trailer tongue jack, which messed up the "internals". I thought Ikd be shelling out for a new Jack, for sure.
Nope. etrailer had a repair kit available (apparently, I'm not the only destroyer of tongue jacks) at a very affordable price and they have an online video to instruct one in the replacement of the innards.
I don't bother with the other accessory or parts sources anymore. I just call these guys and ask what they have. Never have been disappointed, and they enjoy helping.
Fits well. Using RhinoRack system for ladders. Residential Light Construction. I made my own air deflector.lol
This kit has been perfect for my new truck and allowed me to use my bars from my other truck on the new one. This kit is actually more succeed than the ones that I replaced. I use the rhino rack to carry the kayak shown in the picture
Solid all around and easy to mount. This was a good choice for my needs.
I couldn't find a rack to fit my car anywhere, I have been looking for years and just found Rhino rack on the Internet a few weeks ago.
The Rhino rack for my Toyota Camry is perfect! Easy to assemble, good quality parts, fits really well. Can't wait to get my canoe out on a lake thanks finally to this rack!!
Great fit kit for our 2013 Prius C. It took us several hours to figure out how to install because apparently we both didn’t read the instructions as good as we thought. My recommendation is READ the instructions first, don’t try to figure it out like we did. Once we thoroughly read the instructions the installation had no issues. We did watch a YouTube video so when we finally found the measurements we were only off an inch. We are happy to be able to have more room on our cross country road this July. The racks are quality and the fit kit easy. The cost is a little high for what you get but that’s on rhino rack not etrailer. We are very happy with our purchase. I will adjust my review later on if anything changes.
Hi George from etrailer,
The rack is awesome! Strong, firm hold and nice looking. When doing surveys, I put my ladders on the rack.
I highly recommend this etrailer.
I'm very happy that Rhino Rack builds roof racks to accommodate a large variety of vehicles. Trying to fit a rack to my 22-year-old Chevy pickup with a naked roof was a challenge. Fortunately, the people at etrailer are extremely knowledgeable and were able to get a direct fit. The rack fits awesome and will help in an upcoming road trip. Thanks Alex and etrailer team.
Just what I needed. Looks great!!
Service was excellent.
Easy install with the to the point instructions. Best decision we made to transport our gear.
Perfect fit and function. Will from customer service was excellent. This is the third time I have used etrailer and will be a repeat customer!
I have always had vehicles that came with factory rails which made it a no-brainer to get a rack for.. until now when bought a Dodge Ram 1500 truck with a bare roof.. and how do I then carry my 14 foot sea kayak? (It will not fit on the bed..)
When I stumble upon the 2500 Rhino rack on the etrailer website I was very interested but very distrusting at the same time - how would a rack than hanged on to the roof of the truck by what appear very small shallow clamps be able to support and hold my 50+ pound kayak to the roof with all the wind dynamics involved... BUT IT DID just that and fantastically! I took my time installing it because I was so nervous if I made a 1 mm mistake off the recommended position my kayak would peel off my truck in the middle of I-65 going South to Florida...did not happen! I drove 400 miles at an average speed of 62-65 mph and the kayak did not even make a vibration. Yes, it works, period. Don't let appearances fool you, this rack does the job. Thank you etrailer and RhinoRack.
The selection process that etrailer uses is top-notch. This really helped narrow down the choices for my 2019 RAM Quad cab. I bought this all kitted together. The assembly process is very straightforward and well-documented. I would highly recommend etrailer as a source for vehicle accessories. I have Yakima bike racks on our Subaru and this is as good if not better.
This kit I ordered worked very well when I mounted my Rhino Roof Rack to my truck. It's as close as a perfect fit as you can get! I feel it's secure enough that it will go no where and my rods are safe and secure in my truck!
