Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this MEC RV propane pigtail hose. Now this is a 12-inch propane pigtail hose from MEC, and it's mainly intended for motorhome owners who want to connect an auxiliary propane cylinder to a compatible propane system. The big advantage of adding that auxiliary cylinder is, of course, going to be convenience. So if you're parked for an extended stay, you're going to be able to remove and refill the extra cylinder instead of having to move the entire motorhome just to refill its onboard propane supply. Connection-wise, the cylinder end has a male POL fitting with a 7/8-inch nut.
So it is a wrench-tightened connection. The other end is going to be a 1/4-inch male inverted flare, which is going to connect to a compatible female inlet on the RV's propane system. Those connection types are important to verify before purchasing since this hose is designed for a specific type of setup. One of the more important features is the 0.9 GPM excess flow POL fitting. So if this hose becomes damaged and propane suddenly starts escaping at a high rate, the fitting is designed to restrict the flow once its closing rate is exceeded.
It's an added safety feature rather than simply being a standard connection. The hose itself is thermoplastic with fully cramped brass ferrules, and it's UL and CGA-approved for propane service.
