The best part of a 4-bike rack is saying yes when someone wants to join the ride. The hard part is keeping it from feeling like a wobbly, rattly mess behind your rig. This setup is rated for the bounce you get behind RVs. It uses a vertical anti-wobble device to tighten things up at the receiver and the locking threaded hitch pin helps reduce horizontal movement so instead of watching your mirrors and wondering if the next bump will be the last one for your rack, you can focus on the ride ahead.
Hitch racks sit higher, and lifting multiple bikes can turn into the slowest part of the process. Add the Ramp and Bridge (S59SR sold separately) so you can roll bikes into the trays, then strap the wheels and clamp everything down.

Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today, we are gonna be talking about the Swagman Escapee Pro Bike Rack. Now, this is gonna be the four-bike variation on the back of our 2023 GMC Yukon. It's gonna be a great one if you're looking for a four-bike rack that also has the capacity to carry some pretty heavy e-bikes. I will speak to that capacity a little bit here later. But what I wanna focus on right now is, how our bike is interacting with our vehicle.
So at this very moment, big gap here. Even if you're on some pretty bumpy roads, this is moving around some, we're not gonna make contact with anything. Now, we do have a decent amount space behind there, but not enough to open up that lift gate. I can tilt this back some. That'll allow me to open this up a decent amount so we won't be able to open it up fully because here at the very top, since I have a mountain bike with some wider handle bars, we're gonna make contact there.
I'm gonna stop mine here because this is still only me enough space if I need to grab anything smaller, like some shoes, some totes, anything of that nature, we'll have that room to do it. And now, we'll just put this back down and put this back into the seated position. Next up, I do wanna talk about that capacity. So the capacity, if you were to have four bikes on here at one point, that's gonna drop down to 45 pounds per bike. But if there's just three of you going out and about, then you can put an 80-pound bike on each one of the two spaces here and then you can put a 45-pound bike on the third space.
So you can still carry those e-bikes if you're not gonna have it fully loaded. Now, when it comes to taking it off, it won't take very long. Just gonna do a strap on one side, come move here to the other side, or have this button to release the hook, and then we'll be able to push it away. Now, when you're doing this, sometimes you might have to wiggle it some to get it free. And you can get a ramp for this to make this process a bit easier.
But I just have a standard bike today, so it won't be an issue. Now, when it comes to putting everything back up, won't take very long. All you're gonna have is a hook that will lower down and then that strap on the other side. And then we can get a couple measurements. So the first measurement I'm gonna be getting is gonna be our ground clearance. So if you're going up a steep incline, like a hill or driveway, we wanna make sure we're not gonna bottom out. So from all the way back here, that's gonna be about 30 inches. Even if you have this wholly loaded up, it's not gonna drop down to make that contact. And for the total distance of way this is sitting, this is gonna be roughly about 57 inches. Now, this is gonna be a pretty big rack. It's gonna take up some space, especially on a larger vehicle. We can save some space though. The way we do that is by tilting this up and putting it into the folded position. Now, when I get that measurement, we are only gonna be at about 15 inches, so that's gonna be very compact now. Still, keep in mind, if you're not at a spot, like a parking spot, garage, it's gonna be tight. Now, when we're looking at how is it interacting with the back of our vehicle, it's gonna block a lot. So we're gonna be blocking our backup camera, our license plate, and even our back window. But the majority of our taillights will not be obstructed. And the way it's gonna install is, we'll have a two-inch shank that'll go into your two-inch hitch receiver. We have an anti-rattle bolt there, and then a lock on the other side. Now, overall, I do think this is gonna be a pretty good option for most people out there. And if you are looking to carry up majority of the time, three bikes, and you have those heavy e-bikes. Now, if you are gonna be carrying more so four bikes most of the time and you want a lot of the same abilities that this one gives you, then I'd ask your recommend checking out the Yakima HoldUp. The Yakima HoldUp is gonna be a little bit more affordable, but it's gonna retain that 60-pound capacity with the first two spaces. And then the next two spaces will actually stay at 50 pounds per bike. So if none of your bikes are anywhere close to 80 pounds, so you're still below 60 pounds, I'd go with that instead. But if you have anything that is close to 80 pounds, this might be the best one for you.
