Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Custom-Fit Passenger's Side Liftgate Gas Strut. Now, this has been designed to fit your 1995 to 2004 Subaru Legacy Wagon, then your 2000 to 2004 Outback Sedan or Wagon. Now, this gas strut is a direct replacement for a worn out or failing liftgate strut on your vehicle.

Its job is to smoothly lift the hatch open and hold it there so you're not fighting gravity or worrying about it dropping on you. Inside the strut, there's a dampening groove that's going to help prevent bouncing, which means the liftgate opens and stays steady in hot or cold weather whether you're closing the liftgate. Let me try that again. When you're closing the liftgate, this strut is going to slowly compress instead of slamming shut, giving you a controlled, smooth feel. It also has an internal wiper that's gonna keep the rod lubricated with oil.

That's gonna reduce friction, prevent sticking, and help the strut last longer over time. Installation should be pretty quick for you. No special tools are gonna be needed. This is going to snap into your vehicle's factory mounting points. The body side uses this bracket connection here and then the shaft side connects with a ball socket.

The strut's built to resist rust too. This does have a black powder-coated steel tube and then a nitrate coated rod. Fully extended, this is going to measure about 22 5/16 inches. When it's compressed, about 13 9/16 inches. One important tip.

Liftgate struts should always be replaced in pairs when applicable. So, most vehicles use one on each side. By the way, this is the passenger's side, as you know, but we do also carry the driver's side, and on your screen, I'm including our model number for that driver's side one if you need that as well. So, replacing your struts in pairs is gonna be better because if you just replace one or the other, it could cause uneven wear on your hinge that could damage or warp those liftgate hinges over time.
