Video Transcript for Tow Ready 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Wiring Harness Installation - 2018 Ford F-250

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford F-250 we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tow Ready Fifth Wheen and Gooseneck Wiring Harness for aluminum truck beds. Part number 20110-010.Here's what the wiring looks like once you have it installed. This is going to make connecting up our trailer a lot easier, because we're not going to have to go underneath our tailgate and make the connection with the bumper. It's come to a bias with a seen way connector, it's going to have a nice spring loaded door with a gasket to keep any kind of moisture and debris out from the connector.Since the Ford trucks now have aluminum beds, our kit does come with aluminum screws, so you don't have to worry about any kind of corrosion from putting steel screws into the aluminum. Now, the kit does come with steel screws as well, if you have a steel bed, but again, if you have an aluminum bed, you're going to want to use those aluminum screws. Our harness is going to connect into our factory tow package here, at the back of our seven way on the bumper. We're going to have a T-connector system, it is an extremely simple connection and we're going to have 7 feet of wire to run from here to wherever we decide to mount it in the bed.Even with the wiring in the bed, we're still going to have our factory wiring and that's not going to be interrupted and that's not going to affect it at all.

We're still going to be able to use both of them.My overall impressions of this wiring is that I really like the simplicity of it. We're just going to have a T-connector at the back and we'll run a wire out to wherever we want to mount it. Now that we've seen what our wiring looks like, let's show you how to get it installed. The first thing we're going to want to do is we're going to want to come behind our bumper and find our factory seven way connector. It's going to be a little tab here on the side. We're going to go ahead and push in on that tab, then we can disconnect our connector.

Now we're going to grab our harness that has a Y on the end of it, and we're going to put a little bit of dielectric grease in each side. Now if you need some, you can pick some up at our website at, using part number 11755.We're just going to fill up the inside of the connector, we're going to do that on both ends. This is going to prevent any kind of moisture or corrosion from building up inside. We can take the end that came out of our harness, on the back of our bumper, plug it into the Y, make sure it locks in, then when you grab the other end and plug it to the back of the bumper. Make sure it locks in.Then we're going to take the end of our harness and we're going to route it over our frame so that we can come out on the side over here, so that we can route it up towards our bed.

That way the wires will be out of the way and they won't be hanging down behind the bumper. Now, inside the bed, we're going to need to find a spot to mount our seven way connector. We're going to mount ours towards the back, down low. You can mount it pretty much wherever you want, but this will be a nice, easy access spot. To start out, we're going to take a small drill bit and drill a pilot hole into the side of the bed here. You just want to be extra careful, because you don't want to go too far and hit the exterior part of your bed. With our pilot hole drilled, I'm going to come back with the hole saw and I'm going to cut a hole large enough that my connector can fit through.

The directions say to use a 2-inch hole saw, but I'm going to go just slightly larger with a 2 1/4", that way I know for sure that the connector can come all the way through. I'm going to come back with a file and I'm just going to file down the edges a little bit, that way they're not so sharp. I'm going to come back with a little bit of spray paint. I'm going to spray the inside edge of the bare metal to prevent any kind of rust or corrosion from building up.Now I'm going to reach underneath my truck and I'm going to feed my wires up until I can pass them through the hole that I just drilled. You want to take a little bit more of that dielectric grease, put it in the end of our connector, and take the outside connector and plug it in. Make sure it locks into place, feed our wires back in, and we can get ready to mount our connectors to the bed. We can line up our connector, we can grab one of the included self tapping screws, and a 5/16 nut driver, and put them in place. All we have left to do is test our connection. I'm going to plug in my seven way tester, then grab an extra set of hands, so they can run my lights and I can verify that they're all working properly. If I turn my headlights on, we can see the lights come on, as well as the left turn signal, the right turn signal, and the brakes. Then if I apply the manual override on the trailer break controller, we can see the meter at the top going up and coming back down when I let go.It's always a good idea to check the connection of the back of the bumper, since we did disconnect that as well. I just took a couple of zip ties and I took the excess wire and I zip tied it up underneath the bumper. There's no exact way to do it, you just want to make sure that the wires are tucked up high enough that they're not going to catch on anything. They're also not going to interfere with anything else back here. That will finish up your look at the Tow Ready Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck wiring harness for aluminum truck beds, part number 20110-010 on our 2018 Ford F-250.

The trailer plug worked great. It plugged into the truck harness and worked well. The truck I put it on is a 2017 F250 Larriet 505963

Easy to install. Required a 2" hole saw to side of bed. 526126

The first harness i ordered did not fit correctly. This harness fit and functioned perfectly. This harness is a very easy install just be sure there isn’t anything behind where you will make your 2” hole. I almost put it where the frame for the bed wouldn’t have allowed it. As always, etrailer was exceptional, even with the harness I had to return! Thanks 459065

Easy install. Hardest part was using the hole saw in my aluminum bed. Snapped right in to the existing connector. I also tested out the connections with a meter to insure all were working. 603958

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Ford F-250 with Factory Pucks & Lippert Turning Point Trailer Pin Box
  • For your 2018 Ford F-250, you are correct that with the Lippert Turning Point Pin box on your trailer you do not need a sliding 5th wheel hitch for your 6-3/4 foot bed. The best option to give you the most height adjustment is the B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package # BWRVK3300 for a 20K capacity or # BWRVK3305 for a 25K capacity. Both of these hitches offer height adjustment between 16-3/4 - 18-3/4 inches. There is only one hitch that is slightly taller...

  • Recommended Base Rails for Pullrite 5th Wheel Sliding Hitch on 2019 Ford F-250
  • For your 2019 Ford F-250, I recommend the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2402 which will allow you to install your base rails in the correct location. These brackets are custom fit to utilize holes already in your frame to reduce installation time and drilling. The brackets take the measuring to a minimum for a perfect fit. This will give you the industry standard base rails that are compatible with your Pullrite sliding 5th wheel hitch. For...

  • USA-Made B&W and Demco 5th Wheel Hitches with Under-Bed Installation Kit for 2019 Ford F-350
  • For your 2019 Ford F-350 dually without the factory 5th wheel prep we can help you with an under-bed 5th wheel install kit similar to the OEM kit to keep the bed free of base rails that can get in the way when you're using the truck for cargo applications. For a short bed I recommend the B&W 20K Slider hitch # BWRVK3400-5W and the under-bed install kit # BWGNRK1117-5W. If you have a long bed you'll use the same install kit but instead use a fixed hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. I strongly urge...

  • The best fifth wheel hitch for your 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty with an 8 foot bed and the factory rail system (the pucks) is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3300. This fifth wheel hitch is considered by many to be the highest-quality hitch available. With more than 400 reviews from our customers who have purchased it, this hitch has received a nearly unanimous 5-star rating. The hitch features dual jaws which are a full 1" thick to provide complete contact with your king pin so you can...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2018 Ford F-350
  • You certainly can. You just need a fifth wheel hitch and an install bracket kit. I recommend the B&W kit and Companion hitch. The insall kit for your for your 2018 Ford F-350 is part # BWGNRK1116-5W if your truck is 2-wheel drive or part # BWGNRK1117-5W if it's 4-wheel drive. I like the B&W kits because the fifth wheel install kit is actually a gooseneck hitch in case you ever need it in the future. It's also an underbed kit so you don't have the fifth wheel rails taking up space. Then...

If you happen to have the 4WD version then you will use a different gooseneck/install part, # BWGNRK1117-5W. For towing flexibility this setup is pretty tough to beat and the build quality of B&W hitches is well-known. • Will Demco Hijacker Fifth Wheel Hitch Fit 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty With 6-3/4 Foot Bed?
  • Yes, the Demco Hijacker UMS Double Pivot # DM8550033 will fit in the factory puck system of your 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty despite the fact you have a 6-3/4' bed and not an 8' bed. This is not in our fit guide for a short bed because normally a sliding fifth wheel hitch is required in a truck with a bed that is under 8'. With your Lippert Turning Point pin box you will not need a sliding hitch so the Hijacker # DM8550033 is going to be a great option. I also recommend Wiring Harness...

  • In-Bed 7-Way Trailer Connector Installation
  • Based on the items you viewed it appears that you're installing a second 7-way socket in your truck bed for 5th wheel or gooseneck towing. The usual connection point for an in-bed 7-way is at the rear of the existing bumper-mounted 7-way. Since I don't know your truck information I'll give you an example for an F-150. Factory 7-way wiring has a connector that plugs in to the back of trailer connector, like the round U.S. Car wiring connector shown in the linked photo. An in-bed 5th...

  • What Makes B&W Companion the Best 5th Wheel Hitch for 2019 Ford F-350 With Prep Package
  • The overriding factor that makes B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch the best is its jaws. The dual jaws on the Companion are not only a solid 1" thick, they wrap totally and completely around your kingpin; B&W tests them to have a tolerance that is the thickness of a piece of paper, meaning there is no space for the kingpin to move when the jaws have a hold on it. The thick, highly secure jaw system ensures you have a much more comfortable and quieter ride with the Companion compared to other...

As you look at your options, make sure to go with the longer bed that is 8 feet so that your towing is easier overall as well as this leads to the most cost-effective setup.
