Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4 pole flat trailer connector. This product fits a 2009 to 2012 Toyota Matrix, 2009 to 2010 Pontiac Vibe, and a 2011 to 2012 Scion XB. It's going to provide your four-way flat connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5 pole, 6 pole, and 7 pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately. It comes with a dust cap, that way you can cover up the connection points here on the plug when it's not in use.

The unit also features protective connection terminals to resist corrosion. It's going to include your tail light converter, this is going to ensure your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. This is called the circuit guardian, it's a weather-proof double mold design. It simply protects the tow vehicle and itself from trailer short, so it's a really nice design, built in and included. The overall harness, the overall unit is designed to install quickly and easily.

All you have to do is locate the connection points in the rear cargo area. The kit also comes with detailed installation instructions to help you with the process. Then you're going to have two sets of connectors, one for the driver's side and one for the passenger's side. These are custom fit for your vehicle, so they're going to match up perfectly with the plugs on the vehicle, and they're going to snap together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you have those connected you'll need to mount the tail light converter.

You can do that using the slots here on the side and the cable ties provided with the kit. Then you'll need to make a ground connection. Your ground wire is your white wire, it has a ring terminal already attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a nice clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is a short red wire coming out of the converter box.

It's got a butt connector already attached to it. This gets connected to one end of the bundle of red wire, the other end of the bundle runs to one half of the fuse holder, and gets connected to the wire with the butt connector on it. The other end of the fuse holder has a ring terminal attached to it, that gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It also comes with your 20 amp fuse, it goes right here in the fuse holder, and it's got the cap on it to keep the fuse safe and protected. Once you have that done, you can use the additional cable ties to secure any excess or slack in the wiring. Once your installation is complete, the four-way connector is going to be stowed underneath the vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do want to recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector easily accessible as well as secure. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the four pole connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points, and it's included in the kit also.
