Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side and passenger's side. You will have to remove the rear threshold, trim panels, and some interior floor covering to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11143944 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector. This product fits a 2006 to 2011 Hyundai Accent and a 2009 to 2012 Hyundai Elantra Grand Touring. It also fits a 2005 to 2012 Kia Rio. Now, it's going to provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. This is compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole, and 7-pole adapters. Adapters are sold separately, and it's going to come with a dust cap for the 4-way flat connector.

That way, you can cover up the connection points when your plug's not being used. The black box is going to be the included tail light converter. This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. Now, the unit's designed to connect quickly and easily. You don't have to worry about cutting or splicing any wires.

All you need to do is locate the connection points in the rear cargo area, and then you're going to have 2 connectors to get connected. These are custom fit for the vehicle, so they're going to hook up perfectly with the ports in the vehicle. You find the connection points, plug these in. The kit also comes with detailed installation instructions to indicate where those connection points are, but these connectors, again, are going to be a perfect fit. They're going to snap lock together for a nice, tight, secure connection point. Once you have those connected, you'll need to make a ground connection.

Your ground wire is your white wire. It has a ring terminal already attached to it. You want to get that grounded to a nice, clean metal surface with the included grounding screw, and then mount the converter box in an out of the way location with the included cable ties. Then you'll need to run the hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead is going to be this red wire with the butt connector attached to it.

You wan to get that connected to one end of the bundle of wire. The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery and gets connected to one half of the fuse holder here with the butt connector attached to it. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal on it, and that gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery, and the kit comes with your 20 amp fuse, goes directly in here, and then we got the nice fuse cap on there to keep that area safe and protected. Then you can go ahead and secure any excess or slack in the wiring that you may have with the included cable ties. Now, once your installation is complete, the 4-way connector is going to stowed in your rear cargo area. It is recommended that you use a small amount of the included grease on all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-pole connector itself. That grease is going to do a great job at preventing corrosion to the connection points. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins plug-in simple vehicle wiring harness with the 4-pole flat trailer connector.

Kia Rio

Just installed this today and it works perfectly unlike the same item from Curt Mfg.
(Whatever you do, don't purchase that one. They left out 2 critical jumper wires and you will lose all your lights on the car and the trailer, but your taillights).
I could be wrong, but the lights on my trailer seem much brighter with the Hopkins powered adapter system than my old unpowered one. The only thing that could be improved on the Hopkins system would be to not have such excessively over length
wiring. They obviously did not have an actual Kia Rio 5 to measure from.

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2007 Hyundai Accent Hatchback
I have a hitch that will fit your Accent hatchback but the item # 24760 only fits the sedan models. Instead you will want the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C11092. This hitch is custom fit for the hatchback models and bolts to your car with included hardware. I really like the Curt hitch because it is made in the USA. This is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. It has a 2,000 lbs towing capacity, and a 200 lbs maximum tongue weight. It weighs only 23 lbs. If you are planning on towing...

  • Can a 2007 Hyundai Accent Pull a Trailer and What Parts Are Needed
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11094 which is a fit for your 2007 Hyundai Accent (Sedan) has a maximum gross trailer weight rating of 2,000 lbs. Therefore, so long as the weight of the golf cart and trailer do not exceed this figure which I think is reasonable to assume and the vehicle is rated high enough then yes, you can use this hitch to tow a golf cart on a trailer. In order to complete your towing setup you are also going to need a trailer wiring harness, the Hopkins Plug-In...

  • Why There Isnt a Class III Hitch Available For 2008 Hyundai Accent
All of the hitches available for the 2008 Hyundai Accent are Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers because of its limited towing capacity. The Accent's weight capacity is 849 pounds including cargo, occupants and tongue weight. The hitch manufacturers do not want their customers to exceed the vehicle's tongue weight rating so they only manufacture lower tongue weight rated hitches for those vehicles. All the hitches available for the Accent have a 200 lb tongue weight limit. If the Accent...
