Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM11142415 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector. This is going to fit a 2004 to 2008 Chrysler Pacifica. It's going to provide a 4-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is compatible with 5-Pole, 6-Pole and 7-Pole adapters. Those are sold separately. It's going to come with the dust cap for the 4-way flat connector, that way you can cover up the connection points when the plug's not being used.

Simply just slides over the protects those terminals. The unit also offers protective connection terminals to resist corrosion. The black box, this is going to be the included taillight converter. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system. This is designed to connect quickly and easily.

You'll need to look at the connection points in the rear cargo area. One connector goes to the passenger side of the vehicle, the other one goes to the driver's side. The plugs on the harness are custom fit for the vehicle so they're going to match up perfectly with the ports on the vehicle and they have the locking tabs so they're going to push together and lock together for a nice, tight, secure fit. Once you have those connected, you'll need to mount the converter box to an out-of-the-way location using the included cable ties. Then you'll need to make a ground connection. Your ground wire's the white wire, it has a ring terminal already attached to it.

You want to get that grounded to a nice clean metal surface with the included grounding screw. Then you're ready to run your hot lead to the vehicle battery. The hot lead's going to be the short red wire coming out of the converter box. It's going to have a butt connector already attached to it. You're going to connect this to one end of the bundle of wire.

The other end of the bundle runs to the vehicle battery and gets connected to one half of the fuse holder, the half with the butt connector on it. The other half of the fuse holder has a ring terminal on it and that gets connected to the positive post of the vehicle battery. It also comes with your 20 Amp fuse that goes directly right here in the fuse holder and then we've got the cap that goes over to keep it safe and secure and protected. Once you have everything done you can secure any excess or slack in the wiring with the included cabled ties. Then once your install is complete, the 4-way connector is going to be stowed beneath the vehicle hear the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep the connector secure and easily accessible. Mounting brackets are sold separately so if you're in need of one you can check out some options here at e-trailer.com. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of grease in all your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle and the 4-Pole connector itself. The grease is designed to help prevent corrosion to those connection points and the grease is included with the kit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-pole Flat Trailer Connector.
