This universal coupler lock protects your trailer from towaway theft. Lock codes to your vehicle's ignition key, and it's nearly impossible to pick or bump. Included lock, base plate with ball, and shackle fit most coupler and latch styles.

To install this lock simply insert the ball into the coupler's ball socket. Insert the collar into the base plate until it's snug against your trailer latch and the holes align with the holes in the base plate. Insert the lock through the holes in the base plate, and use your vehicle's ignition key to secure it.
When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Bolt trailer coupler lock for one and seven-eighths inch, two inch, and two and five-sixteenths inch couplers. This one's for the late model GM key. This will work with most late model Chevrolet and GMC cars and trucks. Now, this is a universal coupler lock that'll protect your trailer from tow away theft by preventing hook-up. The lock cylinder that's used uses bolt technology and it codes to your vehicles ignition key. Basically, what happens is, is when you insert your own key into this cylinder, spring loaded plate tumblers will move up and down until they're matched exactly to that key.The first time the key is rotated in the cylinder, it's uniquely coded to that key.
When that key has been moved to the cylinder, moved into the locked position, and then when the key is turned again in there, it will rotate to the unlocked position. One note on this, the bolt locks do permanently code to only one vehicle and it cannot be recoded or rekeyed. Also, on this cylinder, they use a six-plate tumbler sidebar on the lock to prevent picking or bumping.On the plate in the shackle, it's a hardened steel hardware for extra security. Now, you do use the interchangeable ball on the steel-based plate that you insert into the ball socket on the coupler. Basically, the smaller one that I've installed already on here fits the one and seventh-eights inch and two inch diameter couplers.
A larger one, you'll use if you have a two and five-sixteenths coupler.The steel collar right here, just take the pin out, slide the pin out. The steel collar is a seven position steel collar. This will help restrict the coupler latch movement, so when you put your coupler in here, and put this collar over it, that'll help keep the latch from opening. If you notice on the plate, and the collar, it's a red and black powder coat finish on it to help resist corrosion and they use a red color on the plate because it makes it a visible theft deterrent.Now, this does include everything shown here on the table: the bolt lock cylinder, the base plate with the two interchangeable ball sizes, the steel shackle that'll fit most coupler and latch tiles, the steel pin that goes through that the cylinder attaches to, and nice set of detailed instructions on how it all operates.What I'm going to do now is I got a coupler here I'm going to demonstrate how you would lock it up. I happen to pull a, this is a two inch diameter coupler.
It fits on two inch balls, so that's why we have the smaller ball on the ball plate here. You'll take your shackle off, and then what you'll do is just open your coupler just like that, drop it on to the ball, lock it down into place, and now it's hooked to the ball plate. Then you'll take your shackle and drop that over the top.If you notice on the ball plate, you'll see there's two rows of slots here, so you pick the correct row that this shackle will go through that'll hold this latch down. On this one, the front one won't work because you'll miss the latch, so you'll do it on the back one. You can see it covers the latch.
Once you get it down all the way, you take your steel pin, slide it right through, match the holes up. Once you get it all the through, then you'll take your bolt cylinder that you already keyed to your ignition key and then put that right on there and it locks it into place. The only way you could get this off is to have the ignition key that you have to fit in there.Then you'll see, once it's all locked into place, you can't lift the latch up to remove it and there's no way to hook up to any vehicle to tow it away. Just to remove it, again, your lock will be on there, put your key in there, unlock it, take the cylinder off, slide the pin all the way out, pull the shackle out, and then just open the latch to remove the coupler from your lock. Excellent product, used it on my month long trip through Utah, to Yellowstone and home. had no problem with my Bolt lock, really cut down on the keys I had to carry, have it on my bed cover on my truck, the hitch ball and the hitch lock. Very happy with the product will look for other of their locks in the future.

Really like that this works off my key and u don’t have to carry additional keys!! However, this only comes with 2 size balls, not 3 as advertised. I think it’s assumed if you have a 2” hitch, you will just use the 1-7/8 ball. But I can actually lock it (as tight as it will go) with the trailer locked in to it and still remove it easily. If it had an actual 2” ball, this wouldn’t happen, or if it could cinch down tighter, but I can’t get it to fit thru the next set of holes on the black piece. Love the idea, but unfortunately can’t recommend this product.
I purchased a receiver lock and 3 coupler locks made by Bolt. I have a habit of forgetting to lock the coupler to the ball and driving off with the lock and keys on the bumper. This has happened twice causing me to lose both my first set and spare set of keys. I learned of Bolt locks and their ability to be keyed with your vehicle door/ignition key. I received my locks today and the easy to follow instructions had me insert my truck key and turn it clockwise till it stopped. I now have 4 locks matched to my ignition key, so no more leaving the key on the bumper. The receiver loch snaps onto the hitch pin without the key, but the coupler lock needs the key in for locking (just what I needed). These locks aren't inexpensive, but e-trailer had the best price I found. Another good deal from e-trailer.

Super easy to key lock to my Ram key. Trying to eliminate as many keys as I can. As you can see in the picture, I also got the matching BOLT receiver lock.
No weather cover as on their other locks, but it has a sliding internal cover similar to your car/truck door lock. Solid and beautifully finished.

Keyed to our 1996 f350 and using on our Demco hitch. Bought this with the plan to weld up some extensions covering the hitch bolts that connect to trailer. Should not be difficult since it is made from steel.
My 2010 Airstream trailer coupler has a curled lip on the collar which widens as you move toward the trailer. The 2-5/16" "ball" fit well as long as I slipped the U ring through the front slot of the red plate. I tried the back slot but the collar was too wide so the pin wouldn't go through. Using the front slot seems like the system will be secure enough but I would prefer using the back slot. The lock works perfectly with my 2014 Tundra key.
I don't have a center cut GM key just yet but my locksmith is hooking me up with an unused that's already been cut that he was using to bring perfection to the center cut key world when they were first introduced. I do know the bolt is the perfect size to replace the snap retainer on the yoke of our Curt 30K 5th wheel hitch to help keep it right where it's supposed to be, which is helping to protect our hitch to keep it from growing legs then strolling off the property. It's really discouraging when considering all the fellow brothers and sisters out there who are scheming, thinking up new ways to attempt to rip us off. I really never pictured 2025 to be so upside-down in the mindset between what's right and what's wrong. In the modern times, absolutely nothing is sacred or safe.
Works well but thought pin a bit long but maybe ok when combined with this complete tongue lock when parked. Again nice that it works with my Toyota tailgate key.
Using on my Aluma car trailer. Fits well and instructions well written. Can even combine with latch pin for added security. Uses my Toyota truck tailgate key as advertised.
Best addition you can add for trailers. I never have to go looking for keys. Had this on my last truck for the receiver and trailer pins. Only gripe is those are now useless.
I already owned one of these for my boat now I’m putting a second one on my utility trailer and I have one for my trailer hitch on my truck firm believer always nice to have only one key for all my toys
We've tried a TON of different coupler locks for our 2019 Jayco RV with an underslung coupler, and we ended up having to send them all back because they're too narrow. A year or two ago, after giving up on all the other brands from all the other sellers, I got on the phone with an e-trailer rep, and he dug through the available options to find one wide enough, and this one works!
Since it's keyed to the tow vehicle key, and since we sold our previous tow vehicle, I just bought another one because I KNEW it would fit, and it does. So thankful for this lock and for etrailer's help.
Good news is that it works like all B.O.L.T. locks I have with one key. Bad news is that there is no way to seat the cylinder COMPLETELY against the hitch, which leaves a small gap that a thief could get a hacksaw into. Still, the pros outweigh the cons.
Easy to use, works perfectly gets rid of unnecessary keys on ur key ring.
Excellent quality! Superior security! I have Bolt products on boat trailer and cargo trailer. The feature that all my Bolt products are all keyed to my ignition key sure comes in handy!
I especially like the way it works with my 2012 Chevy Express key. I don't need to keep track of additional keys.

Great idea. a bit awkward to get situated, but a visual deterrent in addition to being what I think is a really good locking mechanism. The matching key feature is great. used it for a year and the red paint fades from the sun, but the lock hasn't corroded, jammed or failed.
