Upgrade the factory pin box on your fifth-wheel trailer to this cushioned model that dampens road shock and reduces back-and-forth chucking for a more relaxed towing experience. Unlike air bags, the internal rubber spring requires no maintenance.

Most standard pin boxes are constructed of steel and are built with the sole purpose of connecting your fifth-wheel trailer to your tow vehicle. There is no cushioning built in, so a factory pin box doesn't do anything to provide a comfortable ride when you're hauling your fifth-wheel trailer.
This MORryde pin box, however, is built with an internal rubber spring that absorbs road shock and vibration at the connection point. So if you're driving on unpaved roads or uneven pavement, this pin box will prevent any road shock and vibration you encounter from transferring from your tow vehicle to your fifth-wheel trailer and vice versa. In other words, the rubber spring takes the brunt of the impact so you and your towing setup don't have to. And because this unit uses a rubber spring instead of an internal air bag like some other upgraded pin boxes, there's no maintenance required.
Although this pin box can tow up to 19,000 lbs, the internal rubber shear spring is optimized for trailers that range from 11,501 to 14,000 lbs. A rubber spring built for 19,000-lb trailers would be too stiff to provide any cushion for an 11,500-lb trailer, while a rubber spring built for 11,500-lb trailers would be too flexible for a 19,000-lb trailer. To get the best results from this cushioned pin box, the sweet spot is a trailer in the 11,501-lb to 14,000-lb range.
Chucking, the back-and-forth jerking movement you feel in your cab when towing, occurs most frequently during starts and stops and while making turns. A typical, factory pin box creates a rigid connection without much give. So when a harsh stop occurs, all of the trailer's forward momentum gets forced through that stiff connection, slamming the king pin in the hitch and jerking your truck around.
To combat this, glide pads are built into the MORryde pin box that allow the skid plate to shift up to 3" forward and backward and 1-1/2" side to side to compensate for some of that violent motion so that you don't have to feel it in your cab.
This MORryde pin box is a direct replacement for your existing Dexter 221002300 or Leland 7920/2921 pin box, so the installation is very straightforward. After removing your old pin box, the MORryde can be mounted into place using the same hardware and bolt holes used by the factory pin box.
Because of the weight of the unit, you'll want a couple of friends to help you lift it into place during installation. Once the hardware is securely bolted down, you'll be ready to go.

Today we're gonna take a look at this MORryde cushioned fifth wheel pin box for the Dexter 221-0023-00 pin box, and also the Leland 7920 and 7921 pin boxes. Now this one, here, is built for trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating of 11,500 to 14,000 pounds. Now this is a cushioned pin box, and it replaces your current one for a lot smoother towing experience. This will help you enjoy a nice chuck-free, jerk-free ride thanks to the rubber shear spring that's on the inside. That rubber shear spring will reduce your back and forth chucking, absorbs any jarring movement at your connection point and it'll dampen up to 1-1/2 inches of side to side movement, and up to three inches of front to back movement.
Now I wanna zoom in, show you where that shear springs located. You can't really see it because it's up underneath here, above the king pin, but it is a rubber shear spring and that'll dampen the transmission of the forces from your fifth wheel to the vehicle, makes the starts and stops jerk-free. And, also, what's nice about it it requires less maintenance than the air-filled spring model pin boxes. Also, this will give you the same king pin location as your original manufacturer to reduce any stress on your trailer frame. Now to install this, it is a fast easy bolt on installation, you can see the bolt holes back here.
What you do wanna do is make note of the bolt hole locations of the factory pin box when you take it off, because you do want to mount this pin box in the same hole settings using the existing factory hardware. This pin box does exceed the CSA standards. It is made in the USA. Again, the application for this is fifth wheel trailers with 11,500 to 14,000 pound gross vehicle weight rating. Total weight capacity on the pin box is 19,000 pounds.
You do wanna remember that the pin box capacity will not change the overall gross vehicle weight rating of your trailer. And the last thing I wanna do is give you some measurements, three measurements. First, we're gonna do the overall width which at the very back here, from the outside to the outside, tape measures right at 14 inches for the width. And then the last two are gonna be from the center of the king pin to the center of the front row of holes, and from the center of the king pin to the center of the back row of holes. Now I did put a mark up here where the center of the king pin is to make it easier to measure.
So if we put our ruler on it, from the king pin center to the center of the front row is 18-7/16 inches, and to the back row is 25-7/16 inches. But that should do it for the review on this MORryde cushioned fifth wheel pin box for the Dexter 221-0023-00 pin box, and the Leland 7920, 7921 pin boxes..
