The method we use here to determine which line is the return line for a factory transmission cooler is to first start with the engine cold. Start the engine and put it in gear, with your foot firmly on the brake apply the throttle so that the rpm's climb for a few seconds, put the vehicle back in park, and shut the truck of.

The cooler of the two transmission lines is the return line and the one to use when installing a transmission cooler like the part # D13503 on your 2012 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8 liter engine. To make installation easier you could also use the Derale Radiator Fitting part # D13035 so that you don't have to cut or splice any lines.
