Kayak Trailer Recommendation for Carrying a Hobie Full-Time

Question:

Looking for advice on a kayak trailer. I have a Hobie pa14 that will live on the trailer. But I also need to be able to take one or two other kayaks about 25 of the time. I also would like to have a second tier for storage. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hey Bruce, thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you're a pretty avid kayaker, so I recommend picking up the Yakima EasyRider Double Decker Trailer # Y08129 for a few reasons; it works with the Yakima BigCatch # Y04091 which works really well with Hobie kayaks, and it has the 2 different decks that you can use for a variety of cargo.

For your setup I'd put the Hobie on the lower deck and then you can use the upper deck for your additional kayaks or carrying your fishing gear to keep your tow vehicle completely clear of cargo.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Jon, Thanks for the response. One last question is can you wet load with that trailer?

@BruceA Absolutely! I double checked this with my contact at Yakima and the only things they said to watch out for is that the trailer needs to be hosed down with freshwater afterwards, and not to back the trailer too far down into the water because it might start floating since it's so light.
