Does Installing Brake Controller in 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Require Running Wire to Rear of Truck
Updated 03/26/2025 | Published 03/19/2025 >
Question:
I have a Tekonsha P3 brake control unit that was on my 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500. I recently got a new 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 and am transferring it to that truck. I am using the harness that connects under the steering column to the unit. On my old unit I had to wire the blue wire from the unit all the way to the 7 pin connector. Anyways I plugged in the unit on the new truck and have no power to the controller. I am wondering what fuse that connector is? Wanted to check that first. Secondly I was told I do not have to run the blue wire to the 7 pin on the new truck. Is that correct as well? Thanks for the help.

Hey Patrick, when installing a Prodigy brake controller in your 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 using the install harness part # 3064-P you would only need to run a separate wire to the 7-way if you were replacing an integrated brake controller that Chevy had installed in it from the factory.
I had a hard time pulling up a fuse box diagram for your truck but I believe it's position 20 in the fuse box.

Actually I’ve done a lot of digging since asking this question. Even though the adapter 3064-p fits perfectly, the unit will not power. Tekonsha said they haven’t tested the 2025 and that it may not be compatible. Also fuse 20 is the iecr (in engine control relay) nothing to do with brake controller. The response I got from GM is that the adapter plug isn’t powered and needs to have a kit to power that plug… so no more plug and play. I tested with a multimeter on the black wire to see if we had power and there was nothing. I’m pretty much stuck as of now….
