Will the Curt CrossWing Work W/ the Curt Rota-Flex Pin Box

Updated 07/08/2025 | Published 01/30/2025

Question:

Per several of your expert comments that state the Curt Crosswing 5th Wheel hitch being compatible with the Rota-flex pin box. Curt Mfg. states in writing that it’s not. Your experts are giving incorrect information to the public which causes major issues and could result in equipment failure or damage

Hey Patrick thanks for bring that up! I checked with Curt, unfortunately you can not use the CrossWing with the Rota-Flex. To use this hitch with the Rota Flex pin box, you'd have to lockout the pin box.

If there is anything else you have questions with, feel free to drop a comment and I'd be happy to help!

You should check with Curt again. Their Crosswing product page clearly states that the Rota-Flex pin box should not be used with the Crosswing hitch. It may not have stated it when you checked but it does now. I also just got off the phone with Curt and Lippert and they both stated the same thing. Lippert did however say that the Rota-Flex lockout kit that you sell would be acceptable to make them compatible.

Hi Bryce This is the response from Lippert on your reply to Doug “Hello George The Curt Crosswing is designed to be used with standard pinboxes only. If the pinbox has a pivoting head at all (such as the Rotaflex) we would not advise on the use of the 2 systems together. Thank you,” I have gone back to Lippert with this chain on the chance that he may not be clear that I have the pin lockout. As of now I appear to in a pickle. Also, perhaps he does not want to say that in an email as they do not have a lockout pin and the competition does? Quite confused.

@GeorgeR If your pin box is locked out there's no reason it wouldn't work. They might not be aware of that and are just trying to be as cautious as possible but there's no difference once it's locked out.

@JamesonC Thanks for your reply. I agree with you. I gave them lots of detail and their reply is short and with no depth. Even ask what would be a replacement Pin Box and no answer. I am confident that your company would not advise its clients knowingly to do anything unsafe. As folks who have talked to people directly rather than via email appear to have gotten affirmative responses on my issue I’ll go with that and move on. Since I have the rails connection and the lockout it gives my confidence.
