Hello Bill, thanks for reaching out. I cannot say I have ever heard a complaint about a Demco Ez-Latch Coupler like part # DM37ZR failing and coming disconnected. I ran your question by a group of my associates here and not one of them could recall this kind of complaint. The Ez-latch is widely considered to be one of the best designed and most durable couplers on the market, and the feedback we get from our customers on these couplers is overwhelmingly positive. The only reoccurring complaint I saw in our reviews was shipping damage, and we always try our best to avoid this.
The ez-latch is the coupler of choice for many of us here at etrailer too. We put one on the utility trailer that we use around the shop here and it has worked out great. It makes connecting the trailer easier since you can just drop it over the ball. The latch mechanism itself is quite durable and I am having a hard time fathoming what would have to be done to the latch to cause it to fail. I could maybe see how years of abuse could wear out the wedge or the spring. Luckily the latch is easily replaceable since they make a repair kit part # DM6109. Not that I expect you to need one.
