Question:

Factory exterior shower boxes have worked well enough for us over the last 14 years. However the finish on our current box has become so stained is impossible to get clean and will need to be replaced. Storing outdoors on a Northern exposure has not helped but previous camper shower box was not a problem. Can you recommend a quality shower box that will resist mold and stains?

Hey Roger,

The oxidation of the plastic causes this and unfortunately isn't something that you can really get a rating on from the manufacturer. It's the same as the plastic seats at an outdoor stadium. Keeping the trailer clean and out of the sun is going to make the biggest impact on that plastic's longevity.

I took a couple of my coworkers out to the warehouse and we all got our hands on the three brands we offer (B&B, Empire Faucets, and Phoenix Faucets) to compare. The Phoenix Faucets # PF266201 was the worst of the bunch and felt like those cheap dollar store plastic bins that break really easily. The Empire Faucets # EM54UV was a bit better but still a little flimsy.

The B&B # BM52RR scored the best out of the grouping and felt nice and sturdy and didn't have a thin lid like the rest did. They also used a 90 degree fitting for the hose connection instead of just cutting a couple of holes in the box and having the hose sit partially outside of the box in the wall. Overall the look and quality of each component built into this shower box exceeded the quality of the other brands.

After seeing and handling each shower box I would definitely choose the B&B # BM52RR over the other available options.

Thank you Kevin for your help quickly reviewing 3 in stock exterior shower boxes and taking two buddies with you! I don't use Facebook so I am posting here. Your report was very helpful and echoed feedback from other sources. The box is made by B & B Molders in Mishawaka MO, USA and has a more robust or thicker walled build. It seems these shower boxes are a big manufacturer markup item so minimum build quality is the norm.
