Does The Yakima Deepspace 10 Come With A Seal For Covering The Mounting Slots?

Question:

Yakima Deepspace 10. When mounting the U Bolts, is there anything that prevents water, insects, or whatever from entering through the slots in the underside of the box? In the video, you can see right into the bed from the inside of the box through the slots on either side of the plate and U Bolts? Old Thule boxes used a rubber seal or even thick vinyl stickers to cover unused holes This is the only flaw I can see in the video. Please advise. Thanks

Hello Rick. The Yakima Deepspace 10 Rooftop Cargo Box # Y65RR does have open mounting slots on the bottom. The box does not come with anything specifically for covering these slots. Gravity should be enough to keep most water out, but there would be nothing from preventing insects or anything from going in. Your best bet would be to get the clamps in place then add your own seal. Like you said a rubberized tape or sticker would do the trick.

That said, I have never heard of these open slots causing any issues when using the box. I have definitely never heard of problems with bugs getting in. If you want to play it safe though, adding your own seal will be the only option.
