Troubleshooting an Atwood G6A-6E Water Heater That Won't Ignite

Updated 02/27/2024 | Published 02/26/2024

Question:

I have a 1988 winnebago chieftain. When I press the water heater button on the inside, the water heater does not ignite. There is no attempt/spark. I have a g6a-6a model. I believe the sensor is a 93868. Mine has two “connectors” but all the ones I see to replace it have 1. Does it really matter? What should I do? Also, The squishy stuff at the far left by the. Propane line shouldn’t look like that. Is that a problem?

There are a couple of things that could be going on here, but my gut instinct is telling me it's either a circuit board failure or your wiring harness has gone bad. Start with the connectors/wiring harness and make sure they're not loose and that there is no damaged wiring; then move to the control board, and check to see if it's receiving 12V.

Also, there should be a small 2 amp mini fuse on the circuit board and the wire in a clear plastic sleeve which is a heat sensitive safety fuse that will turn everything off if the heat gets too high from the flame. You can also check that with an Ohm meter for continuity.

If it turns out the control board is bad, you can replace it with # AT91367 - or, if the wiring harness has become damaged or unusable you can use # AT93312 for a replacement.
