Trailer Hitch Receiver, 7-Way Wiring and Brake Controller For a 1989 Chevrolet C10 Big Ten Truck

Question:

Hello, I am looking for the correct hitch, wiring, and brake control for a 1989 Chevy C10 Big Ten truck heavy duty package for the C10. I have been having no luck on the the correct hitch or wiring, as the wiring under the truck has a circular rubber plug with 4 blade type connector in somewhat of a T like configuration. Two blades in line for the top of the T and two blades parallel for the vertical part of the T. I have been only able to find wiring for a flat four with barrel type connectors or a square plug also with barrel type connectors. I would love to get the truck set up to be able to tow a trailer with trailer brake in the future. The truck has been upgraded to a LS1 engine and matching transmission. I would like the hitch, wiring, and control to make the truck as capable as possible without cutting and drilling. I contacted Curt and they told me they do not have one for a ‘89 stopped at ‘86, draw tite’s web site say they have nothing, class V from BandW seams inappropriate as the truck is a C10. Your site has a lot of options from these companies, but it is odd that the companies them self say they don’t have one for the truck. Thank you for all of your help.

The connector you have was used on older trucks so it may have had some wiring changed. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118311 you can see matches your connector on your 1989 Chevrolet C10 Big Ten. This will give you a 4-way flat connector. We do have the 7-Way Kit # ETBC7 which will allow you to install a brake controller. I recommend installing the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR as it uses a small dash mounted control knob. This hides the large control box behind the dash for a cleaner look.

I do agree the B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver # BWHDRH25124 you found is more than your truck would ever need. Instead the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e29KR is a much better option. This receiver is rated for a trailer up to 6,000lbs with up to 600lbs of tongue weight. A weight distribution hitch will allow you to increase the capacity to a trailer weighing up to 10,000lbs with up to 1,000lbs of tongue weight.
