Is Thule Small-Roof Adapter TH487 absolutely required to Install a Traverse Roof Rack on a 2005 Mini Cooper? I would like to install without it. Was is the minimum space required between footings? I wont be carrying any long or heavy loads.

On the Thule rack for your 2005 Mini Cooper the small roof adapter is not required and has even been discontinued. The Thule roof rack for your car consists of:

Rapid Traverse Feet # TH480R
Thule Roof-Rack Fit Kit # THKIT1366
The spacing required is 27-1/2 inches on center. See the attached installation instructions.
