Troubleshooting Reverse Lockout Solenoid Not Working on Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator

Updated 07/14/2022 | Published 07/13/2022

Question:

What is there for me to diagnose? Around 17 ohms at the wires and vehicle connector. Seeing 12V at the wires when in reverse. Im hearing a quiet click but still get resistance and actuator movement when backing up. I bought the complete kit this spring and have been slowly getting things connected up since then.

There are only 3 real possibilities for your lockout failing to work properly on the # DX29FR. The first would be the power. Since it sounds like you are getting 12V power to the solenoid it doesn't sound like this is the issue. The second would be the ground. Make sure your ground connection is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. Also, the wires are interchangeable so it doesn't matter which is the power and which is the ground.

If these both check out it is likely a bad solenoid valve. Although this isn't common on a new actuator it is certainly possible. This comes with a 2-year limited warranty so you should be able to trade it out for a new one if everything else is correctly hooked up and you have power and a good ground.
