We have the perfect option for you and your Tesla Model X and it is a very straight forward easy solution too. Since you do not already have a hitch installed on your 2017 Tesla Model X, I suggest the SeaSucker Ski and Snowboard Carrier, # 298-SK2425.
This vacuum cup mounted carrier is for 4 Pairs of Skis or 2 Boards. It attaches with (4) 6" vacuum cups with a pull strength rating of 210 lbs. per vacuum cup, so it is easy to move to another vehicle if you want or to simply put away when not needed. This option has integrated slots with snap-in-place retention cords that secure your skis and poles or snowboards against soft padding to prevent your gear from damage.
If you need to carry more than 2 pair of skis or prefer a roof rack type arrangement, I suggest the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack, # 298-SX6000B. This roof rack easily mounts to your vehicle with 6 vacuum cups. It has round, aluminum crossbars to connect your accessories to.
The weight capacity is 150 lbs. with a pull strength rating of 210 lbs. per each vacuum cup. With this you can add the Rhino-Rack Ski and Snowboard Carrier, # RR574 for 4 Pairs of Skis or 2 Boards. This also allows for multiple other roof rack accessories to be used.
I have one last option to provide, and this really only comes into play if you are considering a bike rack for your Tesla. It is the easy to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 76143. This is a class III custom-fit trailer hitch with a 2" x 2" receiver opening. It is an easy, bolt-on installation, no welding required and comes complete with hardware kit and installation instructions.
Installing this then provides the option of using the Yakima RidgeBack 4 Bike Rack, # Y02458 combined with the Yakima HitchSki Snowboard and Ski Carrier, # Y02418. This rack lets you carry 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle but also add the HitchSki Snowboard and Ski Carrier when needed. The HitchSki carries up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 boards.
Please note the linked product review and installation videos below and let us know if you have any follow-up questions.
