How to Reduce Wind Noise for Rhino-Rack Vortex Roof Rack on 2021 Jeep Wrangler

Updated 01/04/2022 | Published 01/03/2022

Question:

I mounted Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Legs - Gutter Mount - 8-1/4inch Tall on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler with the one-touch roof. The NOISE IS UNBEARABLE. Theres a loud whistling noise and I have the aero crossbars. Anything over 40mph and you cant hear anything else in the jeep.

I think your issue is twofold; you are using the taller 8-1/4" Tall Legs # RL210S2, and you aren't using the RLTP Leg Adapters # RRVA-FK1-2 (according to what was on your order with us.) The correct parts for the gutter mount roof rack for your 2021 Jeep Wrangler includes the following:

59" Vortex Aero Crossbars - # RRVA150B-2
RLTP Leg Adapters - # RRVA-FK1-2
4-5/16" Tall Gutter Mount Legs - # RRRL110S5-2

Normally I would say you can just add a fiairng to help direct the wind over your crossbars but since you have the taller legs the only thing that will help is to use the RLTP Leg Adapters # RRVA-FK1-2 as these will fill in the extra gaps between the legs and crossbars.

If you change out your taller legs for the shorter legs then you can use the 50" long Fairing # RRRF4. If you choose to continue to use the taller legs then that's fine but you'll still need to use the RLTP adapters.

Attached is an installation video of this roof rack setup on a 2020 Wrangler for you to check out.
