Will Installing Trailer Hitch With Higher Ratings Increase Towing Capacity Of 2017 Acura RDX?
Question:
Hello, just looking for some clarification before I make my purchase of a trailer hitch. I have a 2017 Acura RDX with 1500 lbs GTW and 150 lbs TW capacity internet info, if I install for example the Draw-Tite Max Frame Trailer Hitch #75784, will that increase my GTW and TW lbs towing capacity to the trailer hitch capacity? and second question is with the weight of the actual trailer hitch does that decrease the towing capacity for instance 150 lbs TW - 30 lbs Trailer Hitch = 120 lbs TW capacity? I hope my questions are clear and thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

When trying to determine what the towing capacity of your 2017 Acura RDX is, keep in mind that you will be limited to the lowest rated component, and no products will increase the towing capacity of your vehicle past the manufacturers ratings.
I checked the owner's manual for your vehicle and you are correct that you are limited to 1500lbs towing capacity, and 150lbs tongue weight.
Even though the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75784 you were looking at has a 400lb tongue weight rating and 4000lb trailer weight rating you are still limited by the lowest rated component which in this case is your vehicle.
The weight of the trailer hitch receiver does not take away from the tongue weight rating of your vehicle, it will still be 150lbs as mentioned.
I included a video of the # 75784 being installed for you to take a look at.
