Weight Capacity of Yakima Roof Rack on 2019 Ford Expedition
Question:
Hello, I have a 2019 Ford Expedition Max and I'm in the market for a roof rack system as I have raised side rails so I'm looking at getting Towers and Cross Bars. My question comes in as to what weight capacity number do I trust? The Yakima HD cross bars have a Crossbar weight capacity of 500 lbs, but the TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - part number: Y00147 says Maximum tower load capacity: 220 lbs. As I read it I can't put 500 lbs on my roof rack even though the bars can hold it, but the Towers can't? I'm assuming you are at the mercy of whatever Towers you get? Thanks in advance!

You are correct that the TimberLine Towers # Y33TR limit your weight capacity over the Yakima Crossbars # Y01157, but in this case it is actually your vehicle's roof load capacity that is the real limit. Based on my research, a 2019 Ford Expedition has a roof load capacity of 125 lbs if you have a moonroof and/or 20 inch wheels, otherwise it has a roof load capacity of 200 lbs. Check your vehicle owner's manual to make sure. Since the weight capacity of your vehicle is lower than the capacity of both the TimberLine Towers and the Yakima Crossbars, use the weight capacity of your vehicle to determine your maximum load using this system.
