How to Remove Bearing Buddy Bearing Protector From Hub
Updated 09/18/2019 | Published 09/16/2019 >
Question:
I tried removing the bearing Buddy by tapping with a wood block just like the first three but this one separated leaving the insert still in the hub and the grease part came off. Is there a different way to get these out? These were brand new. I thought they were all one piece.

The best way to remove a Bearing Buddy Bearing Protector like # BB2717 is pretty much what you've been doing. Because the fit inside the hub bore is pretty tight, you just have to take a rubber mallet (or wood block) and firmly tap it around the sides until it's unseated and loosened up enough to pull it out by hand. This process is briefly shown right at the beginning of the video I attached below.
If your Bearing Buddy came out in a couple of pieces it was likely damaged in the removal process. The unit should indeed be one single piece (not counting the rubber cover). When removing one just make sure you aren't hitting the unit too hard (but firm enough) and are alternating the contact point between each hit (left side, right side, top, etc).
