Question:
I installed a DZ tail gate assist in my 2018 ford f 150 on January 7th , the weather was about 20 to 25 degrees. As the week went on the weather got colder and on Jan 21st it was 12 below zero. That day I tried to open tail gate and it would not open. I tried to open it very slowly and easy it would barely open and then I herd a snap and it came down like no assist was there. I live in up state NY where winters are very cold, want to know if this product will be good in this kind of weather. Was refunded my money and was told they did not want it back took it apart and think I found the problem tried to contact company about it and got no response.

I spoke with my contact at DeeZee regarding the use of their Tailgate Assist Systems in cold weather. He said that while they haven't officially tested the units in extreme cold, they have yet to hear any feedback from customers with regard to weather-related failure. He did also say that they sell quite a bit of these to customers in Canada and have not seen any of the shocks break down due to the cold.
It's possible that the malfunction you experienced was actually unrelated to the frigid temps, but in either case the shock does come with a 3-year warranty that would cover anything like this.
The correct DeeZee Tailgate Assist for your 2018 Ford F-150 is the part # DZ43204.
