Is a Weight Distribution System Needed for a 6,000 lb Trailer with a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500

Question:
I have a 1999 Chevy Suburban K1500 with the towing package. The sticker on my factory hitch states a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. 500 lb. tongue wt. without a weigh-distributing hitch, see attached. My owner’s manual states the vehicle can tow 6,000 lbs. with my engine and axle gear combination. My question is will upgrading my factory hitch to your C14029 allow me to safely tow 6,000 lbs. without a weight-distributing system? Does the WD recommendation on the sticker refer to the design of the factory hitch or is it also tied to the capability of the vehicle? I regularly tow 6,000 lbs. and would like to upgrade my setup to make things safer. The Curt hitch is an easier and more cost-effective solution than buying a WD system. Thanks,

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, if the towing capacity of your 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 is indeed 6,000 lbs then using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C14029 will allow you to safely tow this much without a weight distribution system. The trailer hitch and vehicle are both tested separately of one another so the ratings do not necessarily coincide. The lower of the two will always need to be the figure you abide by.
I have attached an install video for you as well.
