When installing an aftermarket transmission cooler like the Derale Series 8000 # D13502, you will want to install it on the return line for your Ford Taurus. If you aren't sure which line is the return line, you can determine this by starting with the vehicle completely cooled off. Start the Taurus and put it in drive, apply the brakes firmly and then apply the accelerator so that the rpms climb, then put the vehicle back in park and turn it off.
When you then feel the two lines coming from the radiator, the cooler of the two will be the return line.
I have attached a short video demonstration on the above mentioned Derale Transmission Cooler, along with a couple articles that you might find helpful.
