Color Wire for Stoplight Circuit for Installing Brake Controller in 2017 Chevy Colorado

Question:
I am trying to install a brake controller on my 2017 Chevy Colorado. I followed your youtube instructions but I have no power on the red wire. Is there an additional connection I need to make or fuse I need to add?

The red wire of your brake controller needs to run to a power source that sees voltage when the brakes are applied. You may have found the wrong circuit to attach this wire to, or in some cases a third brake light fuse being blown will cause this circuit to be dead as well. You can pretty easily check that by hitting the brake pedal and seeing if the third brake light comes on.
Otherwise you'll need to test the wires that run to the brake pedal switch to find one that has 12 volts when the brakes are applied and then use that circuit for the red wire.
When we installed a brake controller in a 2017 Chevy Colorado we found that the correct wire to use was white with a blue stripe. I attached that install video for you to check out as well.
