Question:
I have a 2015 Ford Explorer with a factory tow package. I will towing a double axle trailer with brakes. Do I need an additional brake controller? Or does the factory tow package work and operate the brakes? What is the cost if I need additional equipment such as a brake controller? Possibly some type of squeeze ball is what I heard? Please help.

You will need a brake controller for your 2015 Ford Explorer with factory tow package to control electric trailer brakes, as one is not included. I recommend the Prodigy P2, # 90885, which is a proportional system, meaning your trailer will brake with the same intensity as your Explorer.
With a factory tow package, all you will need is the wiring adapter, # 3035-P, to go with it. One end of this will plug into the controller, and the other end will plugs into the connection point which is going to be under the dash near the steering column.
I have attached a link to a help article on brake controllers which you may find useful.
