Recommended Kayak Carriers For A 2016 Ford Fusion With An Inno Roof Rack

Question:

Why does the minimum crossbar distance have to be 27-28 inches apart? I have the inno roof rack and crossbar setup for a 2016 Ford Fusion but my distance is about 22-23 inches based on what their installation instructions said for my Fusion. I think something like this would still work for my kayak. Just need to know if the crossbar distance impacts the ability of the cradles to perform in any way.

Hi Alec,

The Inno Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs # INA452 needs a 28" minimum spread so that the saddles sit at the right spot for the kayak and support the weight properly. This is probably just a general guide from Inno though because the length and design of the kayak could vary greatly. I personally would stick their rules though just incase you have a failure so you can warranty it out.

When you're measuring your crossbar spread are you measuring from the center of one crossbar to the center of the other crossbar. You could be missing out on a few extra inches if you're just measuring the space between them from edge to edge. We offer other style carriers with smaller crossbar spread requirements like the Rhino-Rack # RR570 (23-9/16" spread) or Malone # MPG107MD (24" spread) that you can check out. I've attached a couple of videos below to give you a better look at these two carriers. If you have some other preferences then let me know and we can find the right solution.
