I have attached a couple links that will more than help you out while installing the Hopkins Proportional Brake Controller # HM47294 on your 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500. The first link is an FAQ article that covers brake controller installation on 2007 - 2011 full size GM trucks. In the article you will find not only a wiring connection chart but also pictures showing you exactly where to locate the specific wires in your vehicle. The article concludes with the final two wires that need to be connected under the hood.

The wiring connection is as follows:

GM Red/Black to Controller Black Wire - Battery Power
GM White to Controller White - Ground
GM Light Blue/White to Controller Red - Brake Light Signal
GM Dark Blue to Controller Blue - Brake Output to Trailer

When you are working under the hood, use extreme car - GM states that raising the gray handle more than 3/8 of an inch to gain access to the studs may result in the fuse box coming disconnected from the electrical connector. If disconnection occurs you may have to consult your local GM dealership for repairs.

At the end of the installation, there are two hex nuts that are needed that GM does not supply, they are 1 each of a M6 Hex Flange Nut # 185916 and 1 each of a M8 Hex Flange Nut # 185917. These will be needed if the wires have not already been connected to the power posts on your truck.

One issue worth noting is that if you will want to remove your controller box for any reason, you can alter your installation by using the Hopkins # HM47685. Since you have to hard wire the brake controller into your vehicle. This adapter harness allows you to do the proper hardwiring, but, it has a connector on the other end so you have a quick disconnect to easily remove the controller from the vehicle.

The second attachment is an actual installation video of a similar brake controller on a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500. Although the controller is different, the installation is the same. This short video takes you through the entire process. One awesome aspect to our videos is that not only can you see/hear the process, but, we also have the transcript on the page so you could print it and that would give you another point of reference.
