Alright, today we are going to review part number AM3400 from Andersen Manufacturing. This is their rapid hitch. What we have here is an adjustable ball mount that is constructed entirely out of aluminum alloy. And the hitch ball assembly itself is actually constructed of chrome plated steel. It does come with two locking pins, one for the hitch ball assembly and also one for the hitch itself. Alright, let us go ahead and take a closer look at the rapid hitch. We have the rapid hitch installed in the hitch . Let us go ahead and take it out. We have our locking pin here, it comes with a barrel key. And then with a 1/4 turn it comes apart. Go ahead and take it out. Alright, and you can see here the shank is constructed of the aluminum alloy and also has two hitch pin holes. It will give you room between different hitch and bumper combinations. Okay, let us go ahead and reinstall it and move on. 0:58
As shown right now, the rapid hitch is in the rise position. We can easily take it out, flip it over and use it in the position. Then reinstall our hitch pin. Alright, next we will move on to the hitch ball assembly. Again, it uses a locking pin, same key as before. Take out our hitch pin and we can move it up and down. You can take it off either way. And then while we have it off, if we need to, we can flip over the ball mount assembly because right now we have our 2-5/16, we can switch it over to the 2 inch ball. And then reinstall our pin and our lock. The rapid hitch has 7-1/2 inches of total travel which will give you 3-3/4 inches of or rise, depending on how you use it. 2:10
The 2 inch hitch ball itself is rated for 8,000 pounds. The 2-5/16 ball is rated for 10,000 pounds. The shank assembly itself can actually handle 10,000 pounds towing on the trailer and 1,500 pound tongue weight. But it is limited by the hitch ball. Now the hitch balls themselves are actually replaceable. If you need to switch to a different size, like if you need 1-7/8 it is pretty easy to do. What we need to do is remove the hitch ball assembly and get behind it. Inside here is a little threaded fitting and what it is is just a 1/4 inch standard thread. We are just using a simple carriage bolt here to thread it into place. We are going to thread it all of the way down and we are going to pull out the pin. And then we can take out the hitch ball assembly. When we need to reassemble it, put it back into place and repeat the same process in reverse. We will go ahead and put this pin back into place. Make sure it is fully seated. Unthread it and we can go ahead and reinstall it on the shank. And it is ready to tow. With that, that finishes our review of part number AM3400 from Andersen Manufacturing.
